24.01.2022 Today we welcomed our first day students at AusSino Nexus Chinese and Language School. The beginners students all came to school in high spirits and had lots of fun celebrating the Chinese New Year. At first they learned about how to introduce themselves by using the phrases n ho (How are you?) and w shì( I am). Then hè lo sh (Mrs Jones) talked about the traditions and customs of the Chinese New Year - chn jié (Spring Festival). Our students really enjoye...d decorating their own hóng bo (red packets) while listening to the exciting and very popular Chinese New Years song called gng x gng x (Good Wishes). They are hoping if they say the phases xn nián kuài lè (Happy New Year) and gng x f cái tomorrow (the Chinese New Years Eve) to their parents, they will receive some money in their red packet they made today for good luck. During the lesson break one of the parents, Ping, introduced our students to Chinese fan dancing. All our students had a go, even the boys! In the second lesson our students watched a video about nián(Year). He was a big scary monster who was apparently scared of loud noises and the colour red - the reason why Chinese people set off fire crackers and wear red during the Chinese New Year. The last exiting classroom activity of the day was to make firecrackers with paper tubes a good way to recycle in the festive spirit! Our students were shown that the colours red and gold were normally used in the Chinese New Year to symbolize good luck and prosperity. At the end of the lessons, all the students were thrilled to receive a surprise present from our school a cute little xióng mo (panda). It is hoped that this cute little friend will keep them in high spirits during their fun journey of Chinese studies. Our adult students also enjoyed their first day of Chinese learning with some lessons on pinyin, greetings and self-introduction while sipping on aromatic Chinese tea. Thumbs up to all the AusSino students on your first day! Wish you and your family a very happy Spring Festival ! We are looking forward to seeing you at the same time next week!

05.01.2022 Today is 23 Dec 2015 according to the Chinese Lunar Year. It is called the minor Spring Festival ( xio nián) in Chinese because the last month of this lunar year only has 29 days. In Northern China, today is the start of the whole celebration of the Spring Festival ( chn jié) when people make their special purchases to welcome the New Year while the celebration will start tomorrow in Southern China. There are two main practices that people still follow today: ( s...o nián ) and (jì zào). (so nián ) is basically spring cleaning the whole house including wiping, sweeping, window cleaning and dish polishing, etc. to get rid of the old and evil and welcome the new and good. (jì zào) means offering a sweet sacrifice (such as oval or tube shaped maltose candies) to worship the Kitchen God ( zào wáng yé) and Kitchen Goddess ( zào wáng ni nai). It is said that today the Kitchen God will report to the Jade Emperor on all the good and evil things a family has done during the year so that the Jade Emperor can decide on whether to issue a punishment or a reward. People normally melt the candy and smear it on the Kitchen Gods lips so he will say sweet things to the Jade Emperor. Other practices include writing couplets or poems ( xi chn lián), cutting intricate and detailed paper cut-outs (jin chung hu) and personal grooming ( x yù l fà), etc. So why not get into the spirit and celebrate the Spring Festival and start cleaning up! Please be reminded that our school will start on Saturday 6 Feb 2016. For more details please visit our website www.aussinonexus.wa.edu.au. Happy Minor Spring Festival xio nián kuài lè!!!
