18.01.2022 Father emu and his singleton chick which is very unusual - the singleton chick I mean. Most clutches are 5-15 young. The male incubates the eggs and doesn't leave the nest to eat, drink or defecate for 8 weeks and the only fluid they get is dew they can reach from the nest....they live off their fat and then raise and look after the young for months.......the females wander off after the eggs have been laid and have nothing more to do with the process. 22nd November 2020 Northern Country, Victoria Photo: Jane Herbert

18.01.2022 This is "Cheeky" ...a smart cockatoo .....each morning he comes to the back door making a fuss to get a feed of grain....if we don't get there fast enough "Cheeky" will start to pull the door seals apart....he has already wrecked one flyscreen....a good example of birds manipulating humans !..Trentham, Victoria 8th February 2021 Photo: Clyve Herbert

17.01.2022 Off to practice with my variable ND filter on the spillway below Daylesford Lake this afternoon...I've always loved water in slow motion and this filter makes it lots of fun. (2.5 secs) 2nd November 2020 Photo: Jane Herbert

15.01.2022 Even the kookaburras aren't used to the heat this summer, because we haven't had much of it for them to get used to. This guy was wings akimbo in the afternoon sun while keeping an eye out for any movement below. Stoney Creek, Trentham, Victoria 10th February 2021 Photo: Jane Herbert

12.01.2022 Grey Fantails have voices that sound far larger than their size - or so it seems as their call follows you about - they are such small birds and so well camouflaged that you have to stand still for quite a while before they gain enough confidence to move so you can actually find them.....such expressive little birds. 11.01.2022 Yes Australia does get huge hail - spare a thought for southeast Queenslanders this afternoon....

06.01.2022 As the native trees and shrubs become more established we have seen more and more native birds coming into the backyard. Keeping the windows clean allows me to use the house as a blind. 06.01.2022 Gang Gangs, a type of cockatoo, as well as having a vocalisation sounding like rusty gates, are real characters and not particularly worried by people. I love the way his character stands out in this shot.. McKenzie Falls, Grampians, Victoria 28trh October 2020 Photo: Jane Herbert

04.01.2022 Currently we are sort of stuck in Victoria as the NSW border is still firmly shut to us.....as is the Queensland border as well to New South Welshmen, so we are having to explore our own state sans storms because they have hijacked them further north. We decided to spend a couple of days in the Grampians in western Victoria because we had never been intto the area (other than to chase storms as they moved east away from the area) so we booked a couple of nights in a caravan park in Halls Gap and hit the road in the motorhome......The caravan park and its surrounds is home to a few mobs of kangaroos and judging by the number of joeys in pouches it's been a good year so far....Halls Gap, Victoria 27th October 2020 Photo: Jane Herbert
