24.01.2022 Subcontracting and labour hire may mean short term profit for a company - but these types of working arrangements can also lead to long term pain. Risks associated with the use of labour hire and contracting include: poorer OHS standards; confused lines of responsibility; poor communication between host companies, intermediaries and workers; less reporting of workforce risks and breaches (as precarious workers fear losing their jobs); and the creation of a two-tier workforce, with subcontracted workers on lower wages than other workers performing the same job. Unfortunately, we are seeing this play out in real time in Melbourne with the latest COVID-19 clusters, increasing public health risks for workers, customers and the community more generally, and impacting the whole economy.

06.01.2022 ACCR is calling on investors of Australian meat processing companies to actively and urgently engage on issue of workplace health and safety. In the highly casualised meat processing industry, risk of transmission is high. The latest outbreak at Ingham's follows outbreaks at Cedar Meats, Pacific Meats and JBS, all meat processing facilities.... Our Director of Workers' Rights, Dr Katie Hepworth, said today: "Investors have a responsibility to engage companies on the composition of their workforce and to demand that the workforce is protected. By ensuring staff are safe and protected, they will be ensuring the security of the meat supply chain too - it’s a no brainer." Full comments from ACCR are linked below.

04.01.2022 As frontline workers cope with increased workloads during COVID, they face increased risks of exploitation and even modern slavery. All workers deserve a living wage and decent working conditions. ACCR is holding Scentre Group, the owner of Westfield shopping centres, to account over the risks that cleaners at Westfield centres are facing. Do you hold shares in Scentre Group (SCG)? Update or register your shareholdings with ACCR so we can demand fair conditions for workers: ...https://accr.org.au/scg-shareholders For more information about other potential shareholder resolutions on climate and cultural heritage visit https://www.accr.org.au or contact us at [email protected]

02.01.2022 Our Dan Gocher is featured in this great Financial Times piece on the unusual shareholder alliances forming between climate-active capital and activists. We see huge opportunities in collaborative, assertive shareholder strategies. What do you think?
