13.01.2022 For many years I have felt that women have been under-represented in the camera department and I welcomed the chance to do something about it. The DP is responsible for putting a large team of technicians together to work alongside the camera (this includes the male-dominated area of grips and gaffers), so it makes sense to aim for gender equity. There is a large pool of talented and dedicated women ready to use their skills behind the camera. In my experience, a gender-bal...anced department creates a happier and richer work environment. 07.01.2022 As cinematographers we have the power to employ our crews. I believe that we have to be proactive and include at least 50% women in the camera department. On my last production there were 4 women in a crew of 7, and one of the men was indigenous. It makes for a better and more balanced working environment and also a far better representation of the world we live in.
