23.01.2022 When I was an assistant I often worked with female focus pullers and DPs. Now that I am a cinematographer it seems natural my own teams be diverse and inclusive. Putting together a great team means finding the people who are the best at their job and have a good working dynamic, which always seems to be well represented by a diverse crew. This is the way it always comes out for me. Katie Milwright ACS @katie_milwright_acs Roger Lanser ACS @roger_lanser ... 18.01.2022 How the landscape of who’s in the crew has changed from last century! It’s been a long time coming keep going! The more inclusive and diverse your team, the stronger you become because everyone is invested, heart and soul. And that matters. The way we frame the story makes a difference for the audience, and part of our story is who we choose to have on the ground with us. I always tell my students this quote:... 13.01.2022 Vale Colin Chase _ Film Industry Gaffer One of the true legends of our industry. A beautiful human who will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. RIP

13.01.2022 For many years I have felt that women have been under-represented in the camera department and I welcomed the chance to do something about it. The DP is responsible for putting a large team of technicians together to work alongside the camera (this includes the male-dominated area of grips and gaffers), so it makes sense to aim for gender equity. There is a large pool of talented and dedicated women ready to use their skills behind the camera. In my experience, a gender-bal...anced department creates a happier and richer work environment. 07.01.2022 As cinematographers we have the power to employ our crews. I believe that we have to be proactive and include at least 50% women in the camera department. On my last production there were 4 women in a crew of 7, and one of the men was indigenous. It makes for a better and more balanced working environment and also a far better representation of the world we live in. The challenge now is to enable these women to move through the camera department and to be given the same oppor...tunities as the men. 01.01.2022 NAIDOC Week film pick #6: The Beach Watch this brilliant recommendation from Allan Collins ACS. Allan was the first Indigenous DOP to receive his letters. Amongst many of his credits are the highly acclaimed Jandamarra's War, Mad Bastards, Dhakiyarr vs the King, 3 Acts of Murder and Beneath Clouds. For this week, Allan recommends "The Beach". Filmmaker Warwick Thornton’s international success has come at a personal cost. He has reached a crossroad in his life and something ...has to change. He has chosen to try giving up life in the fast lane for a while, to go it alone, on an isolated beach in one of the most beautiful yet brutal environments in the world, to see if he can transform and heal his life.
