23.01.2022 World school milk day Last week it was world school milk day. How I remember as a child enjoying my warm flavoured milk provided by the Australian Dairy Farmers. Warm days presented sometimes curdled milk with some not so fond memories. When the milk was left in the hot sun it undertook a process all on its own. This reminded me of the deteriorating cables and power points we often find in older homes. Cables deteriorate over time and power points do not last forever. If you ...find green gunk coming from your power points, it may be time to replace them. To test the safety of the cables, you should have a circuit breaker and safety switch rated for the electrical load, installed on each electrical light and power circuit. A licensed electrician can install a combined unit into the meter box to replace any old fuses. This will provide safety for your cables and for you. If the safety trip does not set, then you have a problem with your cabling. This is a good problem to have. Why? It highlights an electrical fault you currently are unaware of that could be a fire hazard or be life threatening. The most common problems we find with safety switches not resetting after installation in older homes are chewed cables from rodents, brittle cables from age and water leaks. We all enjoy what electricity provides. It can be very dangerous. The dangers are not obvious because we cannot see them. But they are real and life threatening. Cheap products may just prove to be an expensive option or worse a safety hazard. Just like the milk provides calcium for our bodies, the wiring provides a pathway for us to enjoy the wonders of electricity in our lives. It may not be a pretty part of the home but the things we cannot see are often more important. Make sure your electrician installs products that are approved by Australian standards and comply with the electrical equipment safety systems (EESS). See more
23.01.2022 You may not realise Luke Weedon was Runner up in the Industrial category for NSW Apprentice of the year (NECA). One customer said of Luke that he demonstrated a focus on safety, quality, reliability and innovation. Anton de Swart. Luke is interested along with many of our team in "renewable energy and look forward to the challenges that the need to reduce our energy consumption will bring to the electrical sector". This August Luke becomes a fully qualified member of the Team. Great job Luke.

21.01.2022 Look out for water leaks and electricity, not a good combination! Water is a good conductor of electricity. If water leaks into your light or power circuits in your home, a fault may develop, which could result in a fire or someone experiencing electric shock. As soon as you notice a water leak, have it repaired by a licensed plumber. If you can not restore power call a licensed electrician. For added safety your home should be protected with a safety switch.
20.01.2022 Well done to McCann Advertising agency in Melbourne for their campaign that became an internet hit for its black-humored list of dumb ways to die, such as doing your own electrical work. The agency has won a number of awards internationally including the most ever awarded to one campaign at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Working with electricity is a high risk activity and requires training and safety measures to isolate this deadly unseen hazard. We are... often seeing the results of unlicensed, uninsured and illegal electrical work taking place in NSW. Safety switches should be installed on all circuits to prevent the risk of an electric shock to life. Electrical circuits should be rated to the correct cable size and not be overloaded. Appliances should be correctly cabled and all electrical cables should be adequately protected. With growing public awareness, we can greatly reduce the risk of an electrical safety incident. We want zero electrical accidents, deaths or fires. Electricity is dangerous. Electrical work is best left to the professionals. Guard yourself, your loved ones and your property by using licensed and insured tradesmen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJNR2EpS0jw

07.01.2022 An elderly woman had a lucky escape after she was struck by lightning in Sydney while peeling potatoes in the kitchen. Its believed electricity may have traveled into the house through the kitchen sink after lightning hit a copper pipe. All homes should be earthed with an earth stake and have the water pipes protected with an exponentiation bond. Your main earth stake and exponential bond is an integral part of your electrical safety system. You need one as shown here and a cable attached to your water pipe. Let the copper become the earth, not you.
04.01.2022 The team. Sponsored by Austest Electrical Group.
