20.01.2022 Updated NSW Travellers Series Covid permitting.

19.01.2022 The Australian F18 Association wishes all our friends in Victoria well during the stage 4 lockdown. Please practice the social distancing and let's get back to the new normal in 6 weeks time. We are keeping an eye on the covid situation and how it will affect our national titles in Kurnell. At this stage it is too early to tell if we will be forced to postpone or cancel the event. If it does appear that we can not host a regatta then we will make a decision as early as possible to allow for canceling accomodation and travel plans. For those still on the fence there is free camping at the clubhouse so that is one less thing to worry about. In the mean time stay safe and we will see everyone back on the water in the not too distant future.

10.01.2022 From the US F18 listserve In the interest of F18 safety I want to share an experience one of our premier F18 skippers had at a recent regatta on San Francisco B...ay. Many F18s have a Y shaped hiking strap line in the middle of the trampoline which is tied to the aft cross bar. Depending on how tight it is tied there can be a gap between the hiking strap and the trampoline. In a heavy breeze the F18 capsized and as the skipper was sliding down the trampoline one leg went between the hiking strap and the trampoline. The next thing the skipper knew was that he was hanging upside down with a severe twist in his leg. Also the fact that his weight was pulling down on the center of the trampoline, the boat was in the process of turning turtle which would have submerged the skipper. Luckily the water was only about 8-10 feet deep so the mast stuck in the mud preventing the boat to turtle. Meanwhile, the skipper feels like his leg is going to break while he calls for assistance from his crew. The crew grabbed a knife they kept on the trampoline to come aft to him. Before he cut the hiking strap the skipper managed to free his leg and fall in the water. Luckily there were no broken bones and only a sore leg the next day. A close call averted! Lessons learned for other F18 sailors: 1) Always carry a knife that is readily available for such an emergency. Many boats carry a knife in a pocket under the trampoline. 2) Be aware that a leg can go between the center hiking strap and the trampoline, and try to avoid it. 3) After a capsize always check on your teammate that they are OK after a capsize. Sail safe! Steve Stroebel US Formula 18 Catamaran Association President

09.01.2022 The Australian formula 18 association has been monitoring the covid-19 situation very closely. Unfortunately with the borders closed between the states and the chances of those restrictions being lifted are slim to none by late January we have made the decision in conjunction with the Kurnell catamaran club to cancel the event in January and re schedule for the Easter long weekend in April. We do expect borders to be open by then and a vaccine to be freely available. The AF18CA may still cancel the event altogether if by late January the border restrictions are still in question. It is not ideal, but this would be making the most of a bad situation!

08.01.2022 I've been contacted by Speers Point Sailing Club today and after taking into account Sailing Australia's new recommendations have decided they are unable to hol...d the F18 state titles on the October long weekend. Myself and Murray are fully supportive of the decision. SPASC have offered to host us at a time later in the season when and if Covid restrictions permit. I'll keep you all informed with whatever I know regarding the Travellers Series events for this season ASAP so arrangements can be made by sailors. See more

03.01.2022 We're proud to announce the name of our new flagship: the Goodall Design Akurra ! * Over the last 30 years our most successful designs have carried snake names,... and we feel this F18 deserves the same honour. * The Indigenous Australians (aboriginals) tell a story of a giant water snake with a beard mane and sharp fangs, whose movements shaped the land. The name of this great snake is Akurra. * Just like the Capricorn (2004-2009) and C2 (2010-2020) the Goodall Design Akurra will be our hero to shape the catamaran landscape for years to come. * Congratulations to James Derck for your inspiration on the new name! * * * * * #sailboats #sail #sailing #F18 #catamaran #multihull #instasail #sailingstagram #newboat #newmodel #goodalldesign #comingsoon #sailorsworld #sailorsofinstagram #sailor # # #gofastorgohome #gofastonwater #sailfastliveslow #sailfast #instasea #regattalife #regatta #onthewater See more
