24.01.2022 Well done to all of the students that competed in the 3-6 swimming carnival yesterday. It was fantastic to see such a large number of students participating and supporting their houses. Congratulations to students in Emerald who were the overall winners of the carnival.

23.01.2022 Today was Footy Colours Day @ AFPS. A big thanks to all of our staff and students who dressed up in their sporting colours. Our staff vs students footy match was a huge success with the staff team being too strong in the end. Thank you to Claremont Junior Footy Club for supporting the event also. We raised well over $700 for cancer research

20.01.2022 Annual School Satisfaction Surveys for parents and staff are being conducted during August 2020 across Tasmanian government schools. The surveys provide an opportunity for parents and staff to give important feedback on what the school does well and where we can improve. Questions cover a range of topics about our school. All responses are secure and anonymous. Parents selected to participate in the parent survey will receive a letter in coming days.... We encourage you to complete the survey to give our school a clear direction for future programs and services for students. Please contact the office if you wish to use a school computer to complete the survey.



20.01.2022 Our Student Voice Leaders made us proud conducting the official party of andrew.wilkie.mp, Jonathan Lord, Chairperson of Landcare Tasmania and 24 Carrot Gardens, as volunteers and classes got their hands dirty creating new habitat for the Swift Parrot and Eastern-barred Bandicoot. The re-vegetation of the schools property bordering the Rivulet, funded by the Australian Government Communities for Environment Grant Program, aims to restore habitat for native animals, and teach students about land care and conservation.

19.01.2022 Footy Colours Day this Thursday, remember students can wear sports colours from any sporting team they are interested in. Activities will happen throughout the day including a staff vs students footy match and sausage sizzle for all students.

18.01.2022 Bounce Back Program - Today Kindergarten students received a resource bag as part of the "Talk and Read" Project which will provide almost 8000 families with materials to engage learners and their families at home. The bag provides information which encourages oral language interaction and storytelling between parents/carers and their children, addressing missed opportunities for families to experience face to face learning disrupted by COVID-19. Our Lil students will also receive these resource bags shortly.

18.01.2022 Friday, 30th October is National Bandanna Day, the flagship fundraising and awareness campaign for Canteen. Since Bandanna Day began it has raised more than $33 million to support young people impacted by cancer. Austins Ferry Primary School are helping to make a difference by selling bandannas that are available now from our front office. Bandannas are $5 each with limited premium designs available for $15 each. With your support, funds raised from Bandanna Day will help young people impacted by cancer get access to programs, counselling and peer support.

17.01.2022 Last Friday Mr Curley supported a group of students to visit Montrose Bay High School, the students participated in a workshop with Mrs Patten, percussionist with the TSO and drum tutor at MBH.

16.01.2022 We are seeking volunteers on Thursday 20th August from 9:30am 2:30pm, to assist students with planting trees, mulching and watering as a part of our National Tree Day Roseneath Rivulet Planting Project, in conjunction with Landcare and MONA 24 Carrot Garden Foundation. If members of our school community are able to assist, and have a Working With Vulnerable Person card, wed love to have your support for this event. On the day, you will need to sign in at the office and follow directions according to the school's COVID Safety plan Please let the school office know by Friday 14th August, 2020 if you are able to assist.

15.01.2022 Students in Years 4 to 6 across Tasmanian Government schools have been invited to take part in a wellbeing survey being conducted next week during class time. We are doing this as part of the Department of Educations 2018 2021 Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy. The letter sent home in Term 1 2020 provided information about the survey.

14.01.2022 Dear Parents/Carers, The Annual Book Fair organised by Austins Ferry Primary School Association will be held early in Term 4, across week's one and two! If you can lend a hand to assist with book sales please contact the school office on 6275 7222. Busy times are from 8:30am to 9:00am, recess 11:30am, lunch 1:00pm and after school 2:50pm to 3:30pm. Profits from the Book Fair help to keep our Library stocked with new books for all students to enjoy!

14.01.2022 Krispy Kreme orders will be available for pick-up from the gym Wednesday 2 December 2:30pm onwards. There will also be a limited number for sale.

13.01.2022 All students will be attending our final assembly for term 3. The classes presenting items are Kinder Clifton, Prep/1 Smith, Prep/1 Seymour, 2/3 Gallen and 5/6 Lewinski. There will also be a special art and musical presentation. The number of guests will be STRICTLY limited as part of our COVID Safety Plan.

10.01.2022 Today our 2/3 and 1/2 classes had a special visitor to teach them about Japanese culture. They learnt many interesting facts about school life in Japan from Yumi, who is a Japanese Language Assistant from Yokohoma.

09.01.2022 The SVT were recently presented with their cheque after being awarded a grant from KABTAS (Keep Australia Beautiful Tasmania). Our new ecoBins have arrived and the SVT are looking forward to educating students next term on how to improve sustainability across the school.

08.01.2022 Today the Austins Ferry Run Club enjoyed exploring the Conneware walking track and Windemere Beach. Perfect weather, and a great start to the day!

08.01.2022 Our 5/6 classes had a special presentation this morning from Danielle, Waste Education Officer for Glenorchy City Council. Students learnt how the council manages and recycles different types of waste. The SVT then conducted a waste audit of classroom rubbish to help plan our next steps in improving the sustainability of our school.

07.01.2022 The Student Voice Team have received a 2020 Sustainable Schools Award from Kabtas (Keep Australia Beautiful Tasmania). The award is a grant to fund a sustainability project for our school. The SVT have proposed that the grant will be used to purchase Ecobins to support our school with sorting and monitoring waste. The SVT plan to educate our school community as part of next terms school focus on sustainability. This award will help students reduce and recycle waste and keep the school and environment clean.

Our Teacher Assistants play an important role in our schools, working hard to make a difference for our students, teachers and the school community. 04.01.2022 As part of National Science Week, some classes and our Children's University students hosted a virtual visit from Young Tassie Scientists. Students got to ask questions and hear from a bioinformatician, zoologist, ecologist and a medical scientist.

01.01.2022 Some of our year six students have just completed the Head Start to High School program at Montrose Bay High School. They got to familiarise themselves with how high school operates and meet some of the teachers they will have in 2021.
