High Commissioner, New Zealand RE: UN Item 5 Draft Resolution A/ES-10/L.22 - Status of Jerusalem, 21/12/2017 Dear Mr Seed I own & operate a small travel company "Australian Kosher Tours", the purpose of which is to offer tours with kosher food mainly to Jewish clients in Australia and from around the world. Over the last 12 months my clients have requested various tour destinations around Australia, as well as a number of requests for a kosher tour of New Zealand. As of the UN General Assembly vote a few days ago against the US decision to put their Embassy in Jerusalem, I have notified clients that New Zealand will not be included in my current list of tour destinations in response to New Zealand's vote to oppose US policy. More to the point, NZ has joined a chorus of consistently biassed nations that misrepresent anti-Israel sentiment in the UN, as well as railing against the policy of a sovereign state (US) to which no other nation has the right to interfere. The vote was a sham. It was of course always going to be vetoed by the US as a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Australia's choice to abstain was more appropriate given that no nation has the right to approve or oppose another Sovereign nation's rights to make their policy as they see fit. Let alone the United States! Further to this, Australia, New Zealand and the United States are allied nations (n.b. ANZUS Treaty) and I find it disrespectful and disreputable to have sold out an official ally in such underwhelming, controversial and biassed circumstances. Like many others, I look forward to everlasting peace in Israel and perhaps NZ can play an active role as a real moderator for such a goal. May I suggest that you have discussions with a Palestinian attache about their willingness to co-exist side by side in peace in a two-state solution. The Palestinian charter negates that possibility in toto in which case peace with Israel from their point of view is wholly unachievable regardless of any olive branch from any source. Could you please convey my sentiments and the contents of this letter to the New Zealand Minister for International Trade & Foreign Affairs and your Prime Minister. In due course I hope for New Zealand a more moderate approach to international diplomacy in order to normalise bi-partisan cooperation, sentiment and trade relations.
