13.01.2022 The Coronavirus has had an enormous impact on International Students, with Australian Universities being forced to restructure their schedules and programs. International education raked in $37.6 billion last year, making it Australia’s third largest export. Australia has the highest number of international students in the world with 3.6% of Australia’s population consisting of international students. Chinese students accounted for 38% of all international students with the I...ndia second with 18%. Universities Australia, which comprises of 39 major universities in Australia, has submitted a comprehensive framework to the federal government proposing a gradual and safe return of overseas students to the country. This proposal requires all students to undergo health checks prior to arrival and mandatory quarantine after arrival into the country. The impact of the global pandemic has increased pressure on the government to exempt international students from the current travel bans, to get the country’s lucrative education sector back on it’s feet. In May, the government announced it would consider lifting the border restrictions for international students as early as July. For international students this would mean they could get back to universities in time for their second semester of studies. 13.01.2022 Migration is so important for Australia. Prime Minister, Scott Morrison has cautioned that cuts to the skilled migration program would have adverse effects on the economy and communities. In Australia, there are approximately 2.1 million temporary visa holders and 1.78 million permanent residents. More than 25% of Australians were born overseas and nearly 50% of Australians have a parent born overseas. ... The positive contribution of Australia's immigration policy cannot be ignored: Australia’s immigration policy has contributed to nearly 30 years of economic growth. We also have the second largest migrant workforce in the OECD. Migrants are taxpayers and consumers and they play a big role in the housing market. International students bring approximately $39 billion per year into the economy, making international education the fourth-largest industry in Australia. Experts predict that low migration level could also reduce the national income by $50 billion over this year and next.
