03.01.2022 Lecture by Dr Sheikh Ibrahim El-Shafie - The Muhkam & Mutashaabih Verses Allah said in Surat Al-^Imran, Verse Seven: ... Which means: [Allah is the One Who revealed the Book to you [Muhammad]. Within it are explicit verses; they are the foundation of the Book, and others are implicit. As for those who have perversity in their hearts, they follow the implicit verses seeking discord and searching for unbefitting meanings in its ta’wil [to support their perversity]. No one knows its ta’wil except Allah and those who are deeply rooted in the knowledge. They say, ‘We believe in it; all of it is from our Lord’. Only those with sound mind shall be admonished by it]. In light of the content of this Verse, we ask ourselves: - Do I know the definition of the muhkam and mutashabih verses? - What is the meaning of (ta’wil) mentioned in the verse? - What are the consequences of interpreting and translating the ‘entire’ Qur’an literally?
