25.01.2022 Gurra Downs wine is one of the sustainable foods that our company has in its larder!! Cab Sav and Shiraz...produced organically and with high value placed on looking after the soils and the environment. Dave and I travelled the world during 2012/2013 looking at sustainable agriculture and how to produce food as part of a whole ecosystem....way to go Dave and Anita Riley.
25.01.2022 Soil holds more carbon than the atmosphere and all vegetation combined....there is also ways to increase carbon in soils as well...for the betterment of the planet.
25.01.2022 This article was in the Australian and looks at why sustainable agriculture can feed more people. While organic food is something to aspire to producing, it is better to add sustainability to the ag system to ensure food production is optimized and is improving the soil and ecosystem.
25.01.2022 Sam Burke. ..Head chef for MLA and I took 5 minutes to taste test some of the food at the Taste of elbowing Food Festival last weekend....i was there as part of the MLA team talking about sustainable beef production systems and the part farmers and graziers play in the production of the food we all eat...learned heaps and loved seeing so many interested people listening and asking questions about how graziers care for their ecosystems. ..
24.01.2022 Join us at the soil carbon and eco credit forum on the 26th of september.....here is the link to make it easy http://carbonandecocreditforum.floktu.com/
22.01.2022 Sustainability in the food and agriculture context has virtually become a household term. In recent years, a number of stakeholders are morphing the dialogue surrounding the environmental impact of food production into less of a discussion about sustaining the status quo and more about looking for ways to use food cultivation to regenerate damaged landscapes.
21.01.2022 The 5th or December is World Soils Day...soil is an essential component to creating food and fibre. The interaction between water and soil is also essential, as Sir Micheal Jeffery explains in this radio interview in Canberra.
20.01.2022 My kids also love helping me cook in the kitchen.....they tend to love the meals more when they have collected herbs from the garden and added them. Wish they would enjoy cleaning up as much as cooking!!!
19.01.2022 Greener pasture....
17.01.2022 .......giving back as much as you take from the land is key in breaking free of conventional farming practices, which the soil and this planet can no longer support.....my sentiments exactly!!
14.01.2022 This is why expensive wine actually provides better value than cheap options.
14.01.2022 Lucky our Season of Plenty wines are mindfully produced right from the soil to the bottle!!!
14.01.2022 Glad to see that sustainability is changing in the business realm. Love that some "mindfulness of impact "is providing the shift back to longtermism....if that is a word!!!
13.01.2022 This is a good idea....looks at the true value of food and how it is produced...this is becoming more and more important given the scarcity of new farming land and slowing of yield increases in existing farming and grazing systems.
13.01.2022 Times are a-changing!!
12.01.2022 Regenerative agriculture could provide a $1.9 trillion financial return by 2050 on an investment of $57 billion......big numbers....but equally as impressive as all the negative stats that we see in the media... Sustainable food production first needs to be regenerative and not just sustain the status quo....
12.01.2022 Hawaiian Poke Bowl Rump beef served with salad and rice....fabulous flavors. ..taste of Melbourne food festival...another recipe whipped up by Sam Burke Celebrity chef from MLA...
12.01.2022 Interesting times..... This report incorporates the latest findings from the Food Sustainability Index (FSI). Using the three pillars of nutrition, sustainable agriculture, and food loss and waste, the index provides a tool that can shed light on the progress countries are making on the path to a more sustainable food system.
11.01.2022 Sticky glaze lamb chops with young green rice...seriously delicious....at the Taste of Melbourne food festival....i was there as part of the MLA and food network sponsored team talking about sustainable farming/ grazing systems as part of the supply chain to get beef and lamb to consumers!!!
11.01.2022 Wise Words..... "Though people depend on healthy food that can provide them with proper nutrients for their healthy growth, they do not realize that they are degrading the capacity of food production for future generations. The major cause of this cause we think the planet is not our responsibility. We have to realize that to ensure sustainability, we have to make it personal and consider it as our responsibility."... 11.01.2022 Cheap imports just shift the problem...mindful eating and sustainable supply chains are increasingly important.
10.01.2022 Focus on Foods Not Commodities.....thats out mantra at ASFC!!! Rarely do people eat agricultural commodities directly. They eat foods that have undergone varying degrees of processing: some minimally processed, others ultraprocessed. The major public health nutrition challenges associated with overweight, obesity, and inadequate intake of micronutrients are mostly to do with inadequate consumption of nutrient-rich core foods and overconsumption of energy-dense nutrient-poor (EDNP) noncore foods, sometimes referred to as discretionary foods.

08.01.2022 Bryan Granshaw, Precision Agronomist, Vantage NEA. Bryan was born and bred on his family Sugar Cane property, located 100 km west of Ayr, and worked as a fourth-generation farmer until 2015. He then joined the Vantage NEA team as a Precision Agronomist, taking charge of Trimbles new Soil Information System (SiS) technology, which he has developed to work effectively on broad scale farming operations using 30 metre resolutions. Bryan has been a recognised leader of precision agriculture, winning the 2010 National Farmer Federation Farmer of the Year award, for operating an effective, technologically advanced farming system with low environmental impacts. He was also a 2013 Nuffield Scholar, completing a report on how to implement inter-cropping on commercial operations.
08.01.2022 Love this opinion piece about the difference between regen farming and conventional....the bottom line of what consititutes best practise is so much more inclusive than other forms of measurement.
08.01.2022 The new Green revolution??? Nutrient dense food is congruent with healthy soils..... "Now, the food industry must catalyze its next evolution, where companies confront the diet-driven chronic disease epidemic with food and beverage products that explicitly promote human health."
07.01.2022 We have all the ingredients to rebuild soils....need to stop focusing on degrading them and start concentrating on building soil fertility and nutrient dense food.
05.01.2022 Like that they are recycling the organic waste...be good if the compost created was sent back to farmers and graziers to put back in the soil....
05.01.2022 Trophic cascades...natures way to balance eco systems
02.01.2022 Amazing wine grown and developed by Dave Riley and Dean Williams....so proud of you both for walking the talk and getting it done...bottled and available via cellar door and Australian Sustainable Food Company.....no where else!!!
01.01.2022 Look whos working hard on Sunday morning at Freckle Farm. Dung beetles are one of the many little critters that benefit from our chemical free farming approach.... We love these guys - just so determined and matter of fact about all that they do! Helping to break down and incorporate manure into our soils is one of the free services we receive as a result. The natural environment is so incredibly beautiful and productive when in balance. See more
