16.01.2022 With the Tour De France the talk of most offices, we thought we’d take a leaf out of Phil Liggett’s book and steer the conversation towards an analogy on how business insurance brokers are like cycling domestiques. No Tour de France winner has ever reached the pinnacle of success without their domestiques to shield them from all the race throws at them. A domestique’s role is to support the lead cyclist (business owners & CEO’s) during a ride. They work within a team (a bus...iness) to keep the wheels spinning at all times. Domestique means ‘servant’ in French. During a race, the domestique's (brokers) focus is to get water and food (tailored insurance cover) from the team’s support vehicles (insurance suppliers). But they do more than that; they are the ones setting the pace (standards), they analyse the race (assess risk), chase the break away (set strategies to avoid or manage risk), and if the team leader is unfortunate enough to have mechanical problems, they will do what they can to ensure their team leader stays in the race (sorts out your claim on your behalf, so you can focus on your business).
