25.01.2022 Today is #WorldHeartDay and is a chance for people across the globe to take part in the world’s biggest intervention against cardiovascular disease (CVD). This ...World Heart Day, NACCHOs focus is on call to action to oversee the implementation of the rheumatic heart disease (RHD) #ENDGameStrategy to end the high prevalence of RHD in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Over 5,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are living with the effects of acute rheumatic fever, the precursor to RHD, or have RHD. If action is not taken now, it is estimated another 8,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children will develop ARF or RHD, in the next ten years. National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day (Children’s Day) is our national day dedicated and committed to celebrating our children. Children’s Day is celebrated across the country each year on the 4th of August. Children’s Day is a time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities and all Australians, celebrate the strengths and culture of our children. It is an opportunity for us to show our support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as learn about the crucial impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.
