25.01.2022 Isn't it great to see the Vanuatu guys and girls that attended the 2019 ARRO Challenge in Dubbo were able to use their learnt vehicle relocation skills at an incident this morning in Vanuatu on a pole wrap, well done on having a go and it being a successful extrication. Story used with permission.

23.01.2022 ARC2020 Cancelled The ARRO Executive, in consultation with QFES, have taken the unprecedented move of cancelling this year’s Australasian Rescue Challenge due to the current outbreak of COVID-19. The outbreak has placed significant uncertainty amongst our Agency members on whether to send teams to ARC20 or to forego the Challenge this year. All Agency and industry COVID-19 planning is focussing on the long term impacts of this pandemic with closing of borders, restrictions ...of travellers, reduction of services and heightened protection of the community. ARRO Executive have considered that without a full draw card of teams, the ARC could not be conducted to the same quality standards or occupy the allotted timeframes. It would also reduce the competitiveness across teams and incur significant costs for both the Host Agency (QFES) and for ARRO. Our members are asking for certainty, our suppliers need suitable lead time and our sponsors commit significant resources to prepare for this event. Therefore the ARRO Executive have decided to cancel ARC'20 and, although early days, we are confident that ARC'21 will pick up where ARC'20 left off and again it will be held in Toowoomba at dates to be determined in July 2021. It is important for ARRO to conduct our Annual General Meeting, therefore the AGM will be held outside of the Challenge and most likely via Skype or Teleconference on 30 April 2020. Members will be notified of the specific details including time and place in the coming weeks.

21.01.2022 ARC2020 Registrations Now Open Registrations for the 2020 Australasian Rescue Challenge (ARC20) are now open. https://www.qfes.qld.gov.au/Toowoomba-ARC-20//default.aspx... This year, the Australasian Rescue Challenge (ARC 2020) will be staged at Toowoomba and will be hosted by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), involving all services, Fire & Rescue, State Emergency Service and Rural Fire Service. ARC2020 will be run from Thursday 16th to Sunday 19th July. This year will see a new event introduced into the ARC program. The CPR Challenge was trialled at ARC19 and the feedback from rescuers was to embed the event into the ARC. The CPR challenge will now join the informative and educational learning symposium, the hands-on workshops, the three extrication challenge events and the trauma challenge. From a social and networking perspective, QFES in collaboration with ARRO will be running a Rescue Bar and a Swap Meet along with the Welcome function and Presentation Night. Toowoomba is situated in the South West of Queensland. Travel and accommodation details are listed in the registration link.
20.01.2022 Help Recognise ARRO’s 25th Anniversary The precursor to ARRO, the Australian National Road Accident Rescue Association (ANRARA) was formed in 1996 and was instrumental in the establishment of the World Rescue Organisation. Next year, ARRO will turn 25 years young. The Executive want to recognise this milestone at ARC22 and are seeking input from our founding, long serving or even new members that highlight ARRO’s contribution to the advancement of road crash rescue and patient care. Photos, videos, highlights, funny stories, etc that ARRO can share on the website and use at one of the official functions at ARC22 would be welcomed. Contributions can be forwarded to our Executive Officer at [email protected]

07.01.2022 Vale Rhys Maggs ARRO has just been advised of the passing of Rhys Maggs following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Rhys passed away on Tuesday 27th October. Rhys was a retired CEO/Chief Officer of the Victorian SES and one of the founding members of ANRARA/ARRO. Rhys was our first President, a position he held for many years. During his term, his vision brokered the long standing partnership with Holden, obtained financial support via sponsorships and raised the profile of road crash rescue and patient care throughout Australasia. Rhys was also instrumental in the formation of the World Rescue Organisation which was formed during the Rescue Down Under Challenge in 1999. Later, Rhys was elected as the 3rd Chair of WRO. Our thoughts are with his wife Lillian, his family and friends. RIP Rhys.

02.01.2022 Cancellation of ARC21 The ARRO Executive has determined that the 2021 Australasian Rescue Challenge will have to be cancelled. This has been a difficult decision, however, one that needed to be made early due to the significant preparation required to host this event. This position was not made lightly and has been based on the a number of issues including unknown impacts COVID 19 will have on travel as well as feedback received from member agencies whereupon the majority have indicated that they were unlikely to register a team or teams for the event due to budgetary pressures placed upon them. On a positive note, the Executive are currently in discussions with potential host agencies for ARC22 and ARC23.
