17.01.2022 NSW Avalanche Summary 24/09/2020 No avalanche activity Snowpack Summary New snow has arrived and with it came wind.... 5-10cm of snow fell on the 23/09/20 and more is on the way. This new snow snow has fallen on a wet saturated snowpack so we will be out assessing how well it has bonded and continue to monitor this as more loading continues over the next few days. Spring is on the back step with cold night temps and warmer day temps so this should keep things sane for the short term. This might be the last time to get the touring out and hit some fresh snow while it lasts. Be mindful of cornices above while touring and make conservative decisions on steeper lee slopes. . . . #backcountry #snowsafetyaustralia #avalanche #mammutausnz #xtm_performance #xtm #rhythmboardstore #voileusa #snowscience @voilemfg @mammutausnz @rhythmsnowboardshop @snowsafetyaustralia @xtm_performance See more

12.01.2022 We are approaching almost 12 months since the first COVID-19 repatriation flight of Australians from Wuhan China. AUSMAT supported the repatriation of 268 Aust...ralians from Wuhan to complete 14 days of quarantine at Christmas Island before retuning to their homes. AUSMAT deployed a specialist team of doctors, nurses, logisticians and medical staff to the island, where a tent field hospital was set up to accommodate testing and provide health and wellness checks. Since committed repatriation flights to the Northern Territory began on 23 October 2020 a total of 3,054 international arrivals have undertaken quarantine at the Howard Springs Centre for National Resilience.

11.01.2022 At just after 11pm last night our members were deployed to a high angle rescue event in Inverloch involving an injured fisherman. On arrival we connected with A...V, CFA and where we discovered that the patient was positioned at the base of a cliff face along with 2 other fisherman. Unfortunately the 3 fisherman could not be access easily due to the cliff and rising tide. Despite already having high angle rescue operators on rout, we requested a RIB boat from our neighbouring inverloch which was deployed very quickly. In addition to this AV had also requested HEMS who was making their way down to the scene. Due to the topography and weather conditions, it was decided that HEMS would winch the patient out of the area, the uninjured fishermen would be transported back the shore by the RIB and the high angle recovery option would only be used an a back up due to the complex topography of the cliff. Fortunately the plan worked perfectly and the patient was airlifted to hospital. The remaining fishermen were transport back to shore to be assess by AV. Tonight’s event demonstrated how several agencies can work together using trained personnel and equipment to achieve great things during challenging situation Great Job everyone @vicses Phillip VICSES Inverloch Unit CFA Inverloch Loch CFA Fire and Rescue Ambulance Victoria @frv
10.01.2022 As the days become warmer, we are beginning to see snakes emerge from their winter brumation to bask in the sun and search for food and a mate. In Gippsland, ...Red Bellied Black Snakes, Eastern Brown Snakes, Tiger Snakes and Lowland Copperheads are the most common and they are highly venomous. Here are some key points to remember about living in or visiting an area with snakes: 1. When left alone, snakes present little or no danger to people. 2. If you see a snake, keep calm and move yourself and anyone with you (including pets) away from the area. 3. Don't attempt to capture or harm snakes, instead call DELWP on 136 186 for further advice, or call a licensed snake catcher. 4. Maintain lawns and clean up around your house, because snakes are attracted to shelter such as piles of rocks, timber, sheets of metal and building materials. 5. Undertake first aid training and ensure your first aid kit contains several compression bandages, and if someone is bitten, call 000 immediately. 03.01.2022 Latest observations from GeoNet show the temperature of Mt. Ruapehu Te Wai -moe / Crater Lake has risen to around 22C. Mt Ruapehu remains at Volcanic Alert Le...vel 1, in a state of minor volcanic unrest. At Alert Level 1 DOC recommends visitors do not enter the area 700m from centre of Crater Lake, or camp overnight 1.5km from the centre of Crater Lake. The closer you are to Crater Lake and the longer you stay, the higher the risk. This is a good reminder that Mt. Ruapehu is an active volcano and has the potential to erupt with little or no warning when in a state of volcanic unrest.
