25.01.2022 This weekend only! 20% Off on The Walers Mate Light Horse Miniature Figurine This cold cast bronze miniature figurine remembers the unique bond between men of the Australian Light Horse and their trusted Australian bred Waler mounts. The Waler was specifically bred for Australia's harsh bush and proved a sturdy beast in battle in the Middle East deserts. The Australian Light Horse served mainly in the Mediterranean and Egyptian Expeditionary Forces, fighting the Ottoman Empir...e at Gallipoli and in Sinai, Palestine and Syria. Two units served on the Western Front. The light horse was not a conventional cavalry, rather they were mounted infantry who would dismount and fight on foot. Formed in sections of four riders, one man would take the section's horses to safety while the other men joined the fight. The Walers Mate Light Horse Miniature Figurine https://hubs.ly/H0BrZxn0

The first Australian troops from the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam arrived in 1962 and over the course of the war around 60,000 Australians served there, with our involvement ending with the Royal Australian Air Force flying humanitarian missions and evacuating embassy staff in April, 1975. 19.01.2022 The Battle of Milne Bay was the Allies’ first defeat of Japanese forces on land during the Second World War. 1942 stands as one of the most significant years in Australia’s wartime history. As Australians fought in defence of our shores, there were major battles in Papua: along the Kokoda Track, at Milne Bay and at the Beacheads of Buna, Gona and, in early 1943, Sanananda. On the night of 2526 August 1942, a Japanese amphibious invasion force landed on the northern shore of ...Milne Bay at the eastern tip of Papua New Guinea. The aim was to secure a base from which to provide air and naval support for the overland attempt to take Port Moresby. The Japanese landing was opposed by Kittyhawk fighters of 75 and 76 Squadrons RAAF. For the next two days the Japanese, with tank support, gradually advanced towards the airstrips situated in the lowlands at the head of the bay. As they moved forward, the enemy soldiers were constantly harassed by the RAAF aircraft. The Battle of Milne Bay was hailed at the time as the first significant defeat of a Japanese force on land in the Second World War and an important morale booster for the Allies. https://hubs.ly/H0tYCBz0 #VP #VJ #Victory #Pacific #Army #WW2 #WWII #war #secondwoldwar #historynerd #historic #military #collection #history #ww #soldier #militarylife #veteran #war #armedforces #OurVeterans #TYFYS #veteran #DiggersTribute #diggers #veterandiggers #RAAF #Airfroce

16.01.2022 Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester said Legacy Week was known for its trademark badges and was a simple way that Australians can support our ex-service personnel and their families, and say ‘thank you’. Every year since 1942, Legacy volunteers have fundraised across Australia for the families of veterans who stand by our service men and women both during and after their service, Mr Chester said. This year has been unprecedented in so many ways, and the coronavir...us crisis has heightened many of the pressures that our veterans and their families are experiencing. That is why it is more important than ever that we all do what we can to help organisations like Legacy support the families of veterans and I encourage Australians to consider buying a badge or supporting Legacy online. 14.01.2022 Canadian Medical Corps doctor, Major John McCrae, never intended ‘In Flanders Fields’ to be seen by the world. It was a poem he wrote while he was serving with ...a Field Artillery Brigade in Ypres. In May 1915 one of his friends and a former student, Lieutenant Alexis Helmer of Ottawa, was killed. Helmer was buried in the cemetery outside McCrae's dressing station, and McCrae performed the funeral ceremony in the absence of a chaplain. McCrae released the anguish that he felt through writing this poem. He wrote in pencil on a page of his dispatch book. After finishing the poem, he was dissatisfied and threw it away. But one of his fellow officers retrieved it and was so moved that he sent it to the media in London, where it was published. Today, this is one of the most famous war poems and is often read during commemorative events. Sadly, McCrae later became a casualty of the war, dying in January 1918. Lest We Forget. #RemembranceDay #TYFYS
14.01.2022 The uniform and equipment worn by this infantryman is representative of Australian servicemen during the conflict in Vietnam. The floppy design of his bush hat, or 'giggle hat', was intended to break up the outline of the head, helping to camouflage the wearer, as well as providing protection from the elements. His equipment has been optimised for patrolling in the dense tropical forests of Vietnam. Several water canteens and ammunition pouches are attached to US M1956 Load-Carrying Equipment webbing and a cotton mesh sweat rag is worn around the neck. The Army issued combat shirt and trousers would have been a subdued shade of Jungle Green, often referred to 'jaygees'. https://hubs.ly/H0CQjdS0

10.01.2022 This painting truly represents the close bond of empathy and understanding between the Australian Light Horseman and his horse. This light horseman has been bitterly disappointed, for the mail has come and he has missed out again. This was the experience of trooper Ion Idriess for this is what he wrote in his diary in 1916... "June 21st Yesterday fifteen bags of mail (thousands of letters) came for the 5TH. And yet there was not one solitary letter, parcel, or even newspaper ...for me." September 19th Why the hell don't I get any letters or parcels? My mates are always getting them: I don't get a lousy newspaper even." Another Light Horseman, Major Harold B Suttor wrote in his diary in May 1918.. "Thurs 9. One ton of mail arrives and not one letter for me - usual luck" Feeling forlorn and forgotten this Light Horseman has ridden his mount aside from the rest of his section, and feeling rather sorry for himself has plopped down on the ground to indulge in a little wallow in self pity alone. His horse may not understand just why his rider is so unhappy at this moment, but horses are very sensitive and intelligent creatures, and he certainly can feel that his master is upset. He bends his head down over his masters shoulder, nuzzling him perhaps with a little nicker of horse sympathy, to let him know that he is by his side, feeling his sadness, and he is not alone. His Light Horseman responds by laying his head against that of his horse and giving him a hug and caress. Perhaps soft words are spoken, perhaps none are needed, but mutual sympathy is expressed and appreciated by both, and so each are comforted and reassured by the other. https://hubs.ly/H0xfqXB0 The Australian Light Horse is an iconic part of our history. From the Boer War through World War One the Australina Light horse has taken its place in. We hope to keep their history and their story alive through our Light Horse inspired collections. 08.01.2022 Get your Seven badges of the Rising Sun with 20% off this weekend. The Rising Sun Collection https://hubs.ly/H0BgDVy0 The first Rising Sun Hat Badge from February 1902. It was issued to mounted troops in the Boer War. It bore only the word AUSTRALIA arched above a King's Crown.... The second Rising Sun Hat Badge from April 1902 added a scroll with the words 'Commonwealth Horse' and changing 'Australia' to 'Australian'. This badge was a modified version for the Commonwealth Horse. The third Rising Sun Badge from May 1904 carried a scroll inscribed with the words 'Australian Commonwealth Military Forces' and was worn throughout both World Wars. There were, however, a number of variations of the badge; a special version was struck for the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902 and there were badges of the Commonwealth Horse and the Australian Instructional Corps, each with its respective title on the scrolls. This pattern badge formed the template for all subsequent General Service badges. The fourth Rising Sun Hat Badge is from 1949 when Corps and Regimental Badges were reintroduced into service. The wording on the scroll on the Rising Sun badge was changed to read Australian Military Forces. The fifth Rising Sun Hat Badge is from 1956 when the badge was changed to incorporate the Queen's crown with the ascension of Elizabeth 2. The sixth Rising Sun Hat Badge from 1969 was modified to incorporate the Federation Star and Torse Wreath from the original 1902 version of the badge and the scroll wording changed to Australia. The current design Rising Sun Hat Badge from 1991 was produced with 'The Australian Army' on the scroll and the removal of the Federation Star and heraldic wreath. The Rising Sun Badge was originally called the General Service Badge, but it is now officially labelled the Australian Army Badge. It will, however, always be referred to as the Rising Sun Badge.

05.01.2022 This superb Sands Of Gallipoli Great War 1916 -2016 Commemorative Medallion Set of six proof quality silver finish medallions reflects Australia's War in 1916 - on the seas, in the deserts and on the Western Front. While Australia's navy protected the oceans in both hemispheres and supported the blockade of Germany, the Australian Flying Corps' first complete flying unit, No. 1 Squadron, left Australia for the Middle East. Soldiers of the A.I.F. joined the fight in Europe an...d in the Sinai Desert. During the battles of Fromelles and Pozieres on the Western Front Australia suffered losses far greater than at Gallipoli, and in the desert at Romani the Australian Light Horse played a decisive part in the battle that finally put a stop to the Turkish threat to the Suez Canal and marked the beginning of the British forces' push out of Egypt and into Palestine. Sets include a numbered certificate of authenticity and a vial of sand collected from the landing beaches at Gallipoli. The timber finish display case folds into a stunning desk unit or can be wall mounted. Limited to 2,500 sets. 03.01.2022 This painting depicts an Australian Light Horseman on his gallant Waler galloping across the dusty Palestinian plain just on sunset. The Light Horseman is yelling and brandishing his bayonet. They are among the 4th and12th Regiments of Australian Light Horse that are charging toward the town of Beersheba and the defending Turks on the 31st of October 1917. His horse has had no water for three days and gallops with a will, for she can now smell the wells of Beersheba which mus...t be captured before the night falls. There is an urgency to this desperate charge, for if they fail to take the town by night, they will have no water for man or horse, and many will die in the desert. They gallop so swiftly that the Turkish guns are firing over their heads, missing most of them. The Charge of the Australian Light Horsemen on Beersheba was a resounding victory. The precious wells of Beersheba were saved and the thirsty horses drank their fill that night. These wonderful horses not only carried their riders into battle, but all the gear that the horse and rider needed to live and fight in the desert. https://hubs.ly/H0xfvTc0 The Australian Light Horse is an iconic part of our history. 02.01.2022 Black Friday! Caring Hands Light Horse Miniature Figurine! Throughout the Great War the 1st AIF relied heavily on horsepower to function. Duties of the horses ranged from transporting supplies, communications, artillery and of course The Light Horse. The welfare of these mounts was paramount to the success of any operation and indeed the smooth running of the entire corps. The ability of the horses to carry their out tasks was of utmost importance and as such their conditi...on was closely monitored, for as the ancient Greek’s said No hoof. No horse The feed, health and comfort of our trusted mounts was a massive endeavour on its own, but the vital part of the process was to fall upon the rider. Yes, the Waler’s Mate. The connection between the horse and his rider is like no other, as the trust and feeling between them is built up over time through their training and times of conflict. It is from this bond and what we call mateship a deep feeling of caring and admiration is developed. Caring Hands Light Horse Miniature Figurine https://hubs.ly/H0BrZc50
