Peter’s work with LARReC and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) includes managing data on fish and water quality to ensure there is sustainable supply of fish for the local community and building capacity for local staff in managing the database. Dr Wayne Robinson, who is the Project Manager for ACIAR, told us, ‘Peter has supported LARReC remotely to use social media, which has added value to the project as the locals take pride and ownership in sending data and information to him. We’ve been fortunate to have his continued support as a remote volunteer and although there are challenges working remotely, Peter has made a significant impact on the project.’ #AusVols #BuildingLaosFutureTogether See more

05.01.2022 COVID-19 has led to an increase in scams and misinformation online, and much of this has affected travellers overseas. If you are an Australian that has chosen to stayor are stuckin Laos during the COVID-19 pandemic, there is helpful information on the Smartraveller website on staying safe, managing the uncertainties of international travel in a time of crisis, and on avoiding scams. We recommend you have a read. Specifically for Laos, please be aware of the following: Th...e Government of Laos is not offering visa fee waivers. Please ensure you have a valid visa and refer to Lao Government sources on fees and conditions. Recent posts on social media that the Government of Laos is offering visa waivers if the applicant has a letter from their embassy are not correct. There are currently no regular scheduled international flights available commercially from Laos. While airlines that usually service Laos may be advertising flights in future months and allowing online bookings, whether these flights go ahead and will enable you to return to Australia will depend on a range of factors. Transit by foreign nationals through hubs remains subject to restrictions, rules can change with little advance notice, and in the event of disruption or cancellation you may find getting a refund difficult.
