20.01.2022 Joint media release - Supporting international students to support Australian jobs Minister for Education, Hon Alan Tudge MP announced update information regarding international student current situation which as follows: International students play an important role in the Australia economy as they are contributing $40 billion annually and supporting 250,000 jobs. As Australia emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, The Morrison Government is making a number of changes to studen...t visa arrangements to ensure Australia remains a priority destination for international students. Many also go on to become great Australian citizens. While the closure of our international borders has been critical to our success in slowing the spread of the coronavirus, and Australia has been a leader in this regard, it has presented challenges to the education sector and students, both here and offshore. These five visa changes will ensure international students are not worse off due to the coronavirus pandemic and that Australia remains competitive with other countries. The changes include: 1. The Government will recommence granting student visas in all locations lodged outside Australia. This means when borders re-open, students will already have visas and be able to make arrangements to travel. 2. International students will be able to lodge a further student visa application free of charge if they are unable to complete their studies within their original visa validity due to COVID-19. 3. Current student visa holders studying online outside Australia due to COVID-19 will be able to use that study to count towards the Australian study requirement for a post-study work visa. 4. Graduates who held a student visa will be eligible to apply for a post-study work visa outside Australia if they are unable to return due to COVID-19. 5. Additional time will be given for applicants to provide English language results where COVID-19 has disrupted access to these services. 14.01.2022 NT migration program allocations update The Australian Government is yet to allocate nomination quotas to states and territories for the 2020/21 program year. The Northern Territory (NT) was provided a very small interim allocation, which has now been depleted. This means that the NT Government is currently unable to issue nominations under the General Skilled Migration (GSM) program.... In light of this, the NT GSM program is now suspended until further notice for all new applications. Applications for nomination under the Business Investment and Innovation Program remain open. GSM nomination applications received before 1 December 2020 will continue to be assessed. However, please note that even if your application is successful, you will only be issued a nomination once the Australian Government has allocated quotas to the NT. Given the uncertainty in allocations for the current program year, there is no guarantee that all applicants who meet the NT nomination criteria will be nominated. If your current visa is about to expire, you should note that your nomination application may not be finalised before your visa expires. It is important that you remain lawful at all times and obtain professional migration advice on options available to you. Source: https://theterritory.com.au//20/202021-program-year-update
13.01.2022 IELTS and DOHA work to ensure priority test booking for certain Subclass 186 and 187 applicants Priority IELTS booking for Victorian Employer Sponsored Visas (subclass 186 and 187) applicants As a result of Covid-19 restrictions across Victoria, some applicants for Subclass 186 or a Subclass 187 have been unable to get their IELTS test in time to lodge an application. If these applicants are unable to lodge a visa application, they could experience significant delays. Or they... may have to restart the nomination process. Some applicants could lose the ability to obtain the visa altogether if, for example, they no longer meet the age requirement. In collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs, IELTS has offered to help these applicants with a priority booking. Conditions for a priority IELTS test booking: Applicants need to meet both the following requirements Need to be in Victoria; and Need to apply for an Employer Nomination (subclass 186) or a Regional Sponsored Migration (subclass 187) visa And one of the requirements below Applicant will turn 45 in the next two months, or Applicant holds a substantive visa that will cease in the next two months (not currently holding a bridging visa), or Applicant has evidence that their employer’s nomination was approved more than 4 months ago (this would be in the form of a nomination approval letter). When your client meets these requirements, IELTS will assist in an urgent test booking. For more information, please visit: https://ielts.com.au/urgent.
