25.01.2022 Based on peer-reviewed research and the seasoned observations of agronomists working around the world, this white paper confidently declares that global adoption of regenerative practices across both grasslands and arable acreage could sequester more than 100% of current anthropogenic emissions of CO2 and that stable soil carbon can be built quickly enough to result in a rapid drawdown of atmospheric carbon dioxide. We now know enough to have real hope, and with this hope comes the responsibility to journey down a new path.
23.01.2022 This upcoming field day will give understanding of how. biochar can be used to improve farming productivity
22.01.2022 The New York Times: 'How we address an expanding list of crises related to global warming is the most demanding question of our day.... Focusing on the biological activity in the soil, it (a farm) can increase organic matter and thus store carbon. It’s an exponential feedback loop.'
22.01.2022 Soils Matter, Get the Scoop!, published by the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA).
21.01.2022 New National Soil Advocate announced! The name of next National Soils Advocate was announced last week by the Prime Minister, Scott Morrison. We welcome the app...ointment of the Honourable Penelope Wensley AC, the former Governor of Queensland and distinguished Australian diplomat, and look forward to working with her to carry on the work begun by Major General Michael Jeffery. I’m very much looking forward to taking up the challenge of the role to raise awareness of the critical role of soils, to promote sustainable land management and make a tangible difference to Australian agricultural landscape conditions. 10.01.2022 BioResources is trialling a direct drill seeder to establish overcrops and insectary plantings in SoilCare member orchards in Northern NSW. The research projec...t has been looking at insect pest populations under various inter row management regimes. The greatest diversity has been where flowering plants have been seeded into the inter row. This is not a unique finding. Many farmers in Australia and around the world have used cover crops for a long time. To help move this practice along for macadamias, BioResources has purchased a linkage direct drill seeder. We have a lot to learn about this technology - best seeds, timing, weather, soil conditions But there are many benefits besides improving natural enemy populations: more and diverse pollinators improved nutrient cycling increase soil carbon levels provide better water penetration and reduce runoff improve water holding capacity nurture a more diverse and abundant soil borne microfauna Seeds for the inter row can be selected and combined with a variety of aims in mind: To encourage beneficial insects and pollinators To plant species that host "pests" like aphids - food food for lacewings, ladybirds etc To build up organic matter To add nitrogen To reduce runoff To improve water holding capacity To break up compaction Our web page has been updated including a short video on the planter: http://www.bioresources.com.au/inter_row_proje/methods.html A list of good seeds to sow: http://www.bioresources.com.au/inter_row_/seedstoplant.html
