24.01.2022 Drowning in plastic SBS tonight... For the last 5 years Ocean Aware Research has been active in putting the message out there regarding our destruction of the ...oceans. Incredibly we are focusing on climate change when our oceans are in imminent danger of collapse. KILL OUR OCEANS AND WE KILL THE PLANET! That has been my message all along, with new information about the effect of plastic not only on our oceans but on coral reefs and the ability of plastic to carry disease which can ultimately kill coral,The time to act is NOW. The biggest Ocean polluters are also recipents of large sums of foriegn aid from the Australian economy which we all contribute to, time to stand up AUSTRALIANS and stand our ground! Education and lobbying of government and Plastic producers , If nothing is done we will KILL THE OCEANS AND KILL THE PLANET! See more

23.01.2022 Recently, Visit Queensland, Australia asked the incredible Dr. Glen Burns some pretty important questions about the current state of the Great Barrier Reef. Wh...ile anthropological climate change is effecting some areas of the reef (and poses a threat to long term sustainability), this is what the Master Reef Guides educator had to say about our little patch of Agincourt Reef. #QuicksilverCruises #Australia #thisisQueensland #ExploreTNQ #CitizensGBR #GreatBarrierReef

12.01.2022 THE REAL PICTURE Does anyone know how much plastic is dumped into our oceans EVERY YEAR? A million tonnes? Two million tonnes.....try Eight million tonnes. Yeah... 8 million. The ocean has provided me with an amazing life and income for much of my days on this planet, I started Ocean Aware Research about 5 years ago to raise awareness of the seriousness of ocean pollution, but here’s the thing.... the amount of plastic going into the oceans is not decreasing, in fact some areas are worse than they were 10 years ago, albeit there are some awesome projects that are targeting the ‘garbage patches and Gyres’ in the Northern hemisphere . So what does this mean....well I could bore you with facts and statistics BUT it essentially is this: the oceans store carbon-fact, the amount of plastic and micro plastics in the ocean in the first 10 metres of depth is restricting the oceans ability to absorb carbon. So much so that it could accelerate ocean acidification which will lead to a total shutdown of this planet, no rain ,no food, no ocean currents etc etc etc No doubt you have all seen the effects of plastic on marine life ,birds, mammals and fish. Most of the ocean fish we consume now have absorbed plastic compounds in their flesh through ingestion. Quote from scientists that have been studying this - ’ By 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish, if ocean pollution is not stopped’. Hopefully I have painted an accurate picture, care and management of our Oceans is paramount to our survival. I’m not a climate change alarmist but I have spent an enormous amount of time on the oceans of this world and have seen some beaches, which are collection points in the Southern Hemisphere, so covered in plastic it is beyond belief. Next big tide that plastic floats back out gets broken down further and so goes the cycle...vicious as it can be! A lot can be started by education especially in our Island nation friends. I’m not a computer or facebook guru but if any trendsetters out there want to help with getting some education into our schools and PowerPoint presentation stuff, get on board, check out Ocean Aware Research on facebook and like it. We are non profit and pro action and education, if we can change our addiction to single use plastics and change the governments and plastic companies methods and greed then we may just make a difference to Mother Ocean. Thanks Crafty See more

11.01.2022 Nearly the bitter end! Some progress pics, still a lot of detailing yet but slowly getting there. Fishing lost a couple of champions this week Capt Jeff Grey and Capt Bill Billson To their families and friends be comforted in the fact that they were leaders and true champions of the sport and they lived the life of a fisherman. Both were inspirations to me. Cheers

11.01.2022 WELL FUCK IS ABOUT ALL I CAN SAY! Ive been pushing this trolley and these issues for nearly five years now,I’m just going to state 5 facts THE AMOUNT OF PLASTIC... GOING INTO THE OCEANS IS INCREASING NOT DECREASING THERE WILL BE MORE PLASTIC IN THE OCEAN THAN FISH BY 2030 70% OF THE AVAILABLE OXYGEN IN OUR ATMOSPHERE COMES FROM THE OCEANS SCIENCE IS PREDICTING A TIPPING POINT OF 10-15 YEARS FOR OUR OCEANS OUR OCEANS STORE MORE CARBON THAN ANYTHING ELSE ON THE PLANET OUR OCEANS CONTROL DROUGHT,WEATHER,RAINFALL AND LIFE . KILL THE OCEANS AND WE KILL THE PLANET. THERE IS A SOLUTION , OCEAN AWARE RESEARCH

03.01.2022 For years, we’ve been told that recycling plastic means we're doing our bit for the planet. But, have recycling programs been designed to lull consumers into believing the plastic waste program was being solved? Monday night on Four Corners.
