24.01.2022 Great start Australia! Today was the first day of the World Bridge Teams Championships, in Wuhan China. Australia has teams in all four categories of Open, Women's, Seniors' and Mixed and had a very successful day. In the Open we had wins against Bangladesh, Guadeloupe and an almost win against Italy (minus 1). Which puts us in 4th place. In the Mixed, we are running 2nd with wins against Poland, China and Morocco. In the Seniors we had wins against France and Poland, but los...t to China and are in 13th position. In the Women's we lost to Russia and Scotland but beat Pakistan and are running 19th. There are 24 teams in each category and over the next 7 days our teams play all of the other teams in their category with the top 8 teams qualifying for the quarter finals. The matches are at 12noon, 3.30pm and 6.10pm Eastern Standard time and many matches are featured on VuGraph on BBO. Good luck to all of our teams. See more

21.01.2022 In today's Daily Bulletin from the World Youth Championships in Opatija Croatia, (http://championships.worldbridge.org/opatija19//Bul_06.pdf) we learned that Australia beat Japan by 1 IMP in their quarterfinal match of the U-26 teams. Then the Australians found a 1-IMP scoring error - IN JAPAN'S FAVOUR. They went to the Tournament Directors and reported it. The Japanese were found and a 2-board playoff ensued, won by Australia. We congratulate the Australian Under 26 Team:... Michael Doecke, (NPC), Renee Cooper, John McMahon, Nicholas Ranson, Matt Smith, Andrew Spooner and Jamie Thompson. What terrific sportsmanship!

12.01.2022 Our Australian Mixed team is pictured below. With one day to go they are in 5th spot and would love to finish in third spot to win a medal. They have a tough day tomorrow but we'll all be cheering them on. Our Open Team is also chasing a medal. They are in 4th place and only 6VP's behind 2nd place. They have tough matches tomorrow and hopefully at least one will be on BBO VuGraph. Fingers crossed. Our Senior A team is also in 5th spot, but good wins against lower ranked teams could see them in a medal placing. Let's hope all goes well for all of our teams tomorrow.
11.01.2022 Congratulations to the Under 26 Australian Youth Team who on the 23rd September in Wuhan received the the John E. Simon Sportsmanship of the Year award from the International Bridge Press Association. This is the second award for the team as they won the Joan Gerard Award in Opatija in August from the WBF. Renee Cooper who was in Wuhan as part of the Australian Mixed Team collected the award on behalf of the team from the Editor of the IBPA Bulletin, Mr John Carruthers.
10.01.2022 Final Day Results The APBF Championships finished today, with our Open Team on VuGraph, fighting for 3rd place. In their final three matches, the team lost to Indonesia (16-28) and won against the leaders, China (29-11) and against China Hong Kong (59-35). Although they had a good day, the team finished in 4th place, but only 1.6 VP's behind 3rd place and a medal. The medal winners were China, New Zealand and Singapore. Huge congratulations to New Zealand and well done and... commiserations to our team for their 4th place. In the Seniors, our A team lost to Thailand (24-30) and won against Chinese Taipei A (18-1) and Korea (25-16). Our Seniors B team had a tough last day and performed well, beating China (26-19) and New Zealand (48-15) and having a small loss against Chinese Taipei B (18-20). The medal winners were China, Indonesia A and Chinese Taipei B who was 22VP's ahead of 4th place. There was a great tussle for 4th to 7th places, with less than 1VP separating these positions. China Hong Kong was fourth, New Zealand fifth, Australia A was sixth and Australia B was seventh. The Mixed team finished in 6th place, but was 39 VP's behind 3rd place. Today they lost to Chinese Taipei (18-51) and Indonesia (13-32) but finished with a win against China Hong Kong (35-22). The medal winners were Chinese Taipei, Indonesia and Thailand. In the Women's, the medal winners were China, Chinese Taipei and Japan. Our team finished the event with losses to Chinese Taipei and India and a draw against Singapore to finish in 8th place. Congratulations to all of our teams for their efforts.
10.01.2022 Todays BBO VuGraph from Singapore Our Mixed Team will be on VuGraph at 5pm AEST playing Japan. It looks like they will also be on for the first match this morning 11am AEST, but this isn't totally clear (the Bulletin is wrong and shows our Open Team on this morning). Good luck to all of our teams today.
08.01.2022 National Online Game The ABF has decided to institute a weekly online BBO (Red point) session which will be open to all registered ABF players. The main objective is to provide an opportunity to play online to those ABF players who do not have access to ABF Club Games. The first of these Nationwide Pairs sessions will be held on Sunday May 31 at 2.30 pm AEST. Due to time zone differences a 2.30pm start in the Eastern States will allow for a 2.00pm start in South Australia a...nd 12.30pm start in Western Australia. The intention is that this will be a regular (weekly) event with a standard entry fee of 3 BB$. The event will appear as ‘ABF Nationwide Online Pairs’ under the host name ‘ABF_TD9’. It will be of 24 boards duration and because of the expected wide variation in experience of the participants, the session will run at the relatively leisurely pace of 7 minutes per board. The session will become visible in the ‘pending’ competitions section of BBO two hours prior to the scheduled start time. Those pairs who wish to play may then enter from that point forward (i.e., between 12:30 and 2:30 AEST). Both members of the partnership must be online in order to enter and they must ensure that they are back on-line at the scheduled start time, otherwise the system will automatically exclude them. For those who have not played previously on BBO the following link may be of assistance: https://blog.bridgebase.com//03/09/new-to-bridge-base-onl/ In order to play in these events, a player must be an active member of the ABF and must have registered their BBO username on the ABF Mailing List (www.abfevents.com.au/forms/signup/). Username registration needs to have been completed by 6.00 pm on Saturday May 30, since late applications are not able to be accepted. Any enquiries regarding this event should be directed to [email protected]
