11.01.2022 It is with regret that the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition Management Committee had to make the decision to postpone the 2020, 40th Anniversary Competition to next year. The safety of all involved with the competition must be our paramount concern in these very challenging and uncertain times with Covid-19. We know that the unavoidable postponement of the event will be a disappointment to our members and supporters and also to those who have already entered or wou...ld have entered the Competition. We look forward to a great celebration from 16 to 20 July 2021 with your continued support. ACVC Management Committee . . . 01.01.2022 @rebeccacassidy_soprano I am incredibly grateful and excited to be named as the @operaqueensland Young Artist for 2020. The launch of this program was made possible through a bequest from two extraordinary patrons of Opera Queensland. This program allows me access to exceptional professional development opportunities I could otherwise only dream of... including individual coaching, stagecraft technique, language tuition, involvement in main stage productions and corporate and... community engagement events. Programs like these allow singers at the beginning of their careers access to the training they need to take the next step and are so important to the future of our art form for local young artists. This year the @operaqueensland Annual Appeal is going to help build this program so that it can flourish into 2021 and beyond to help a new generation of singers and other associated artists have access to a world class Opera program right here in Queensland. Any help would mean the world in these tough times! Link in Bio to more information. @mark_sherwood.jpeg See more

01.01.2022 Water Willow Survivor is the ACVC’s 40th Anniversary Raffle prize. The artist, Anne Lord (Gallery 48 The Strand) describes the work as follows. In 2003 I went out to the property in North West Queensland where I grew up and did a series of drawings of the native or indigenous trees along the creeks. The Water Willow - Survivor is an Australian tree, and one of those drawings made into a Fine Art print or Lithograph. I took the metal lithography plate out to draw onto dire...ctly like a plein air drawing or painting, as the details could not be remembered or referenced from any photograph. This meant that the drawing was directly influenced by the environment. At that stage it was hot and dry. I took water, grained metal plate and drawing materials with me to accomplish this work. Each drawing was done at the same time of day say from 9:00 to 10:00 am., over a few days at least. The area was in drought. The trees along the creeks are hundreds of years old and to see a young native tree emerge on the creek bank is a delight. I called the series Survivor Trees because that is what these trees local to the region do. I love the way they make shade in a place where there is little shade. I took the whole series of Survivor Trees to China in August 2003. These were in an exhibition at Bei Gao northern Beijing. There are some Chinese Characters, Chinese pingyao (Romanised lettering) as well as some Australian text to place the trees in their Australian location. Water Willow Survivor was framed by BnD Quality Picture Framing who are always happy to welcome new work. Contact Barry or Deanna on 07 4773 4944 or 0424 978 783 or 0402 325
