23.01.2022 The third London Labour Film Festival will screen a selection of labour-related shorts throughout the film festival which takes place next month. These short films will be screened between the feature length films. We would like to invite you to be part of this.... We are asking people to submit short films to the festival. The films and videos submitted can be made in the UK or anywhere in the world. The films will be labour-related, they can be about any and every aspect of work, as well as those issues affecting unionised workers and those not represented by unions. The selected (winners) will be chosen by a global panel of judges and shown as part of the festival. The shorts selection competition is open to anybody. The purpose of the contest is to discover the hard work of filmmakers whose voices have yet to be heard. The winners selected to be screened will be determined by a global panel of judges. Deadline for entries: 8th September 2015 Click here for full details and an entry form. Thanks -- and please spread the word!

12.01.2022 It's been sometime since we posted much to our page, but this grabbed our interests. It is a part of a series of pocket-size dox about creativity (and industrial) folk in our amidst who have made a major contribution to our cultural identity. Here we meet Australian screen editor Jill Bilcock who has a deep and abiding fascination in images. A great documentary to check out.

06.01.2022 On 14 July 2014, the International Trade Union Confederation, representing 176 million workers around the globe, issued a call for an immediate ceasefire in the fighting between Israel and Palestinians in Gaza. The ITUC expressed its full support for the UN Security Council resolution calling for "de-escalation of the situation, restoration of calm, reinstitution of the November 2012 ceasefire and respect for international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilia...ns." Please show your support for the ITUC call: http://www.labourstart.org/go/gaza And please share this with your fellow trade union members. Thank you!

05.01.2022 The oldest union in Turkey is the Porters Union in the Grand Bazarr where 30,000 people work. It was established in the late 1460's and is still going strong. A self-organized collective over 500 years old. I raised a glass of raki to them today.

03.01.2022 #Journalism, #FairfaxFairGo4Journalism A smaller newsroom doesn't mean better news, nor informed, deep reporting. Further cuts in editorial staff will only cheapen current coverage of important issues that impact on all of us. Make your voice heard. Already 6000 people have written directly to Fairfax CEO, and former journalist, Greg Hywood to protest the decision of Fairfax Media to cut a further 125 editorial positions from its two main mastheads, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age in Melbourne. Once the Australian Democrats vowed to "keep the bastards honest," but journalist in this country have been doing that for far longer than that, and frankly the need to do that is needed even more. Much is at stake, and fellow union members in the MEAA/The Alliance need our support. Watch and share if you feel the same way.
