15.01.2022 Earlier this year, the IMO Maritime Safety Committee approved a modernisation plan for the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). The plan will require comprehensive amendments to Solas Chapters III and IV, together with related and consequential amendments to other existing IMO instruments. Although the final changes will not be fully implemented until 2024, keeping GMDSS qualifications up-to-date is potentially life saving. To try and make it as easy as possible to keep qualifications up-to-date, AMC Search is squeezing in one more GMDSS Renewal training course in Tasmania on December 14-17. 04.01.2022 When governments around the world closed international borders in a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19, a small group of trainees from Pacific Island nations found themselves at the Australian Maritime College (AMC) unable to return home. Now nine months since their arrival, all trainees are being relocated from Tasmania to Darwin to join other Pacific Islanders, who have been working with the Royal Australian Navy at HMAS Coonawarra and Darwin Navy Base, in Larrakeyah Barracks.
