22.01.2022 During the recent COVID-19 lock down I have been able to watch TV at times I am normally working. One show I have never watched is MasterChef. Not being able to work I really enjoyed sitting down of an evening and watching the contestants and judges. So many things about this show were truly inspiring. Seeing chefs and cooks from all states of Australia and from all walks of life compete each week to remain in the competition. We were able to see their passion and the rea...sons they so dearly wanted to win the title of Master Chef 2020. A few things really stood out which we can use in our own competitive situations. * The chefs were truly immersed in the task at hand. * The sportsmanship and compassion for each other was something we could all learn from. They had each others back even though this was a competition. * Showing their emotion was not wrong, but truly inspiring. Being able to refocus was the key. * Following the Process, in this case the recipe was paramount, and in the end was the demise of several of the competitors. So in our sport being focused with the task at hand, following our tried and true process, being able to refocus after a bad shot and showing true sportsmanship to our competitors is a recipe for success. Maybe we should have a Master Archer competition?
14.01.2022 What a great way to start the year - look back at your achievements from the previous year. Be grateful for the opportunities you had as an archer or coach in 2018 and plan for the year ahead. If you have had issues with your form or equipment, what have you done or are you doing to fix the problems. Don't keep doing the same old thing and hope it will change. Seek assistance from a coach who knows what they are doing and be guided by their knowledge. Get out of your com...fort zone. Keep on trying to improve and you will see the benefits of your hard work.
11.01.2022 FAILURE The most demoralising part of the sport of archery - or - one of the most important parts of the process to becoming a successful athlete. "Failure is Feedback and Feedback is the Breakfast of Champions".... Failure allows us to adjust our expectation to our ability. We all want to hit the bullseye every time and our tolerance of what is acceptable - The Gold, Red, Blue, Black or White - can change our mood and composure. Accepting our ability based on our score helps us to set goals to improve and move forward. You will always do your best when you have nothing to lose. When you are the unknown or you do not have a benchmark. Learning how to harness the power of failure to move you forward to success will make you the winner of your archery journey. Be realistic, honest and work hard to improve the weak links in your shoot routine. Every time you fail you have an opportunity to lift the level of your training.
10.01.2022 It's nearly the end of the year and most of us will have finished our archery competitions and events for 2018. This is a great time to review the year just passed. Did you achieve your goals?... Were your goals realistic? What have you learned? What do you need to change for next year? What worked? What didn't work? Write these points down. This can then be the basis for your 2019 plan. Don't be too hard on yourself, remember we are all armatures and our sport should be fun. If you need help setting your goals for 2019 visit your coach and sit down with the events you wish to attend and the goals you wish to achieve. Your coach should be able to help guide you through.
