24.01.2022 Set up budding hive last night and after day one bees were happily using new box and storing resin in the corners. Hopefully they build a new hive before summer.
23.01.2022 Due to the dry times I’ve had to set up sugar feeder to get my natives through summer
22.01.2022 A swarm of European bee that dropped into my yard.
22.01.2022 Just Setup a budding hive on an old log. To start new hive, allow for easy management and honey harvesting in the future. Judging by the number of bees that came out once disturbed and how aggressive they were, they shouldn't take long to start building in the new box. To be continued.....
20.01.2022 After 2 years of helping out the local native bee community in Redlands, Ive unfortunately just left the Redlands area and moved to Tamworth. Some of my bees have moved with me and I will be continuing my passion with native bees and helping people in my new town.
20.01.2022 Successfully Transferred a native bee hive for from an old kitchen waste trap. Initially the Bees were not happy but all moved into their new cypress pine box.
20.01.2022 Hi All, if you have not already seen this, and have some native Bees please click the link and take 5min to fill out this quick survey.
18.01.2022 Pollen, coming in thick and fast
18.01.2022 Great video about native bees by Back from the Brink. That I found referenced on sugar bag bees page. https://www.natura-pacific.com/video-back-brink-s02-e03-st/
17.01.2022 Syrphid fly trying to lay eggs in a newly split box. With the box joins all tapped up you can see the fly laying eggs between two stacked native bee boxs, one day after a split. This fly has the potential to wipe out a newly split box so it was squashed just after the photo.
17.01.2022 This is a good guide to native pollinators that you could find in your garden. https://www.facebook.com/groups/beeawareofyournativebees/permalink/1974132059493753/
15.01.2022 Another budding hive set up today. This time on an established box full of bees. The viewing panel will allow Anne, hive owner, to watch the Bees build a new hive. And now we wait
14.01.2022 Split 4 of my hives on the weekend and found that 2 of my T.carbonaria hive were taken over at some time during the year by T.hockingsi. These images are a great illustration of the different broad structure of both species.

13.01.2022 One month in with budding hive and not much to see. Some work on the entrance and exit of hive, edges sealed up and some resin stored in corners.
13.01.2022 Caught the queen checking out her hive after a split
11.01.2022 Insulated native bee hive during Tamworth winter including eduction hive.
07.01.2022 Thought I would share a photo of the bottom half of a hive I split yesterday. Illustrating the main internal parts of a native bee hive.
06.01.2022 This chart tracks the monthly weight change to one of my hives over the last 2 years. During this time I split the hive each November resulting in a weight drop and 3 new hives. By weighting the hives each month I see how quick each hive recovers and also the most productive times of the year in my area.
05.01.2022 Stingless bees busy today loading up on pollen and resin. For food and hive building.
05.01.2022 Found this sneaky native bee hive 1 m above my head in a camphor tree, on the edge of a track that I've walked for the last eight years to work.

03.01.2022 Daryl helped relocate native bees into their new home today, from a water meter at Carina.
03.01.2022 Sad news for a native bee hive that Ive been watching for years outside of PCYC Capalaba. It was cut in half and mulched. Half of the brood and 1 kg of pollen and honey pots was left in the bottom half of the log to rot. So i removed the brood and food, and tried to save the brood by placing in a budding box. Not sure if any Bees will survive but better then doing nothing.
02.01.2022 Budding box finally full of brood after 6 months and no longer connected to mother hive.
