25.01.2022 Congratulations to AOA member Robert John Bartlett (AM), ACT Branch Chair Paul Smith (AM) and past Honorary Secretary (1988-1992) Roger Hugh Pillemer (OAM) on being recognised in this years Queens Birthday Honours. Robert Bartlett was recognised for significant service to orthopaedic medicine, and to national and international medical associations, Paul Smith for significant service to orthopaedic medicine as a surgeon, and to medical administration, and Roger Hugh Pillemer for service to community health through medical advisory roles. 25.01.2022 Today began our first day of #TASASM20. Earlier in the day we heard from TAS member Berni Einoder in the COVID session and guest speaker Catherine McDougall, who discussed Getting It Right the First time Queensland (GIRFT Q) and experiences from the AAHKS Fellowship.

22.01.2022 Second VP Annette Holian discussed Challenges in surgical care in a sudden onset disaster at SICOTs Disaster Management webinar on 22 August 2020. Watch Annettes presentation at 32 mins 20 secs: https://bit.ly/3bh8JYM Annettes experience in the Australian Defense Force and as a first responder at incidents including the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami provided great insight into the preparation needed, including getting information on the environment and culture, standards of care, resources, and ethical challenges faced by responders in these settings.

12.01.2022 Our condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of past AOA vice-president and founding member of the Australian Knee Society, Dick Tooth. In addition to his pioneering work in Australian orthopaedics, Dick served as the 41st captain of the Wallabies in 1957. He will be missed.

Cultural Inclusion Working Group Chair Chris Morrey Our Cultural Inclusion Working Group met for the first time virtually on 23 July with members of the group residing across Australia. 12.01.2022 As the surge in demand on personal protective equipment associated with the COVID-19 pandemic begins to impact Australian supplies, we must do what we can to preserve PPE to ensure the safety of those on the front line of the pandemic. AOA Research Foundation General Director Claudia Bella, along with colleagues, is utilising 3D printing technology to address the PPE shortage were facing.

Throughout his 13 years with us, Jeffs wisdom, expertise and kindness has proved invaluable to the AOA, to many of its members and especially to staff. This month we also celebrate ten years of service to AOA from Advocacy and Governance Manager Kathy Hill and WA Regional Manager Julia Hollowa...y. Kathys steady hand and keen insight have many times proved crucial to handling critical issues, and Julia has earnt the deep respect and affection of WAs orthopaedic surgeons and trainees. Lastly, July will mark ten years with AOA for CEO Adrian Cosenza. Adrians leadership is a constant demonstration of his deep commitment to supporting our members mission to improve Australian orthopaedics.
