20.01.2022 The APDHA has been working with the NT Labor government to convert a substantial amount of crown land outside of Darwin to a dedicated hunting reserve. We are still working through the practicalities of how it will work but it's locked in and going ahead. Stay tuned for more updates on how the APDHA is working to promote hunting and provide opportunities for our members.

18.01.2022 Well this one is nothing to do with us nor pigdoggers but it is a staggering example of what can go wrong. It’s still to be explained properly but all we can say is follow very carefully the rules of hunting access you have been given, know where you are in relation to hunting boundaries and, if in doubt, don’t. What a mess.

05.01.2022 Ok so this is the hunting/Covid situation for NSW. Hunting allowed within your local area. No definition of what local is but will suit rural residents more so than city based hunters. You will still have to be careful of the 1.5 m distance rule even in the vehicle unless you are travelling with the person with whom you share a home. If in doubt, stay home.
05.01.2022 Four people charged after two search warrants executed during illegal hunting/theft investigation - Moree (New England Police District) In early February 2020, ...police from the New England Rural Crime Prevention Team commenced an investigation as a result of ongoing complaints of illegal hunters trespassing on properties on the northern outskirts of Moree. Information suggested that persons using quad bikes were cutting fences and trespassing on farms in order to hunt for pigs, as well as stealing items from these properties. The first theft occurred in December 2019 when an electric boat motor and approximately $5000 worth of fishing gear was stolen from a property on the Gwydir Highway, Moree. The second incident occurred at the same property on 6 February 2020 when a set of spotlights were stolen off a tractor which was parked in a machinery shed. On 12 February 2020 police from New England RCPT and Moree Detectives executed a search warrant at an address in Gwydirfield Road, Moree. Police located a quad bike, hunting gear including GPS trackers and dog collars, a set of spotlights, a boat motor, fishing equipment, a small amount of prescription medication and ammunition. A 23 year old female was arrested and taken to Moree Police Station where she was charged with 'Possess prescribed restricted substance '. She was granted conditional bail to appear at Moree Local Court on 24 February 2020. A 29 year old male was arrested and taken to Moree Police Station where he was charged with 'Enter enclosed agricultural land commit prescribed offence', 'Use unregistered motor vehicle on road', 'Unlicensed for class - first offence', 'Larceny', 'Possess ammunition without licence/authority' and 'Goods in custody suspected of being stolen'. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Moree Local Court on 9 March 2020. On 13 February 2020 police executed a further search warrant at an address in Myora St, Moree. Police located & seized hunting gear including a GPS tracker and dog collar, and an unregistered .177 air rifle which police will allege was stored unsecured in an open shed. Police also seized a Honda quad bike. A 26 year old male was issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for 'Enter enclosed agricultural land commit prescribed offence' x 2, ‘Hunt on private property without consent’ x 2, 'Use unregistered motor vehicle on road', 'Unlicensed for class - first offence', 'Larceny' and ‘Not register companion animal’. He is due to appear at Moree Local Court on 6 April 2020. A 45 year old male was issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for ‘Possess unauthorised firearm’, ‘Possess unregistered firearm’ and ‘Not keep firearm safely’. He is due to appear at Moree Local Court on 6 April 2020. Detective Sergeant Bennett Nolan, RCPT North West Zone Coordinator, praised the efforts of both farmers and police involved "This is a result of local farmers reporting matters in a timely manner, with that information then able to be acted upon by police. The Rural Crime Prevention team, along with local police, will continue to do whatever we can to disrupt those who steal from farmers, damage property and trespass on rural properties." He also warned illegal hunters that they can face serious consequences for their actions. "Not only can offenders end up before the Courts, but we will seize vehicles and equipment wherever we can to stop further illegal hunting offences being committed."

02.01.2022 A reminder to all pig hunters, African Swine Fever is still very much on our horizon. the disease is not confirmed in Oz yet but it is in East Timor and PNG. if it gets into the wild pig population here we are the ones most likely to see the signs. We have a role to play in early detection. Take another look at our info sheet on the issue and get up to speed. We also have access to an online course on what to look for and who you call that we can make available to all hunters... whether or not you are members of the APDHA. We'll link the course in a separate post tonight. It will take you about an hour and you download a certificate at the end of it. This is obviously important and a chance for legal, ethical hunters to contribute to the greater good, but it also helps us all in the long run if pig hunters get involved by becoming certified in ASF identification and response. If you have any questions, fire away... See more
02.01.2022 PUBLIC LAND HUNTING UPDATE East Cookeys Plains State Forest in the Central West region has been reopened for hunting. Pokolbin State Forest in the Hun...ter region, which was temporarily closed due to the bush fire threat, has been reopened by Forestry Corporation of NSW and is back open to hunting. Gurnang State Forest - the area east of the Drogheda Forest Road that was previously excluded from hunting due to bush fire risk will reopen from 12 March 2020. R-Licence holders who hold a current Written Permission for Gurnang State Forest must re-print their Written Permission before heading out to hunt. Now is a great time to head out hunting in regional areas to support the communities who have been struggling due to bush fires and drought! Check out our NSW Public Land Hunting map to see which forests are currently open - http://bit.ly/NSWHuntingStateForestMap. PLEASE NOTE: FCNSW may update their closure list at any time and it's each hunters responsibility to know whether there is a Forest closure in force before you hunt. You can monitor the current list of State Forest closures on the FCNSW website - www.forestrycorporation.com.au//widespread-closures-bushfi
02.01.2022 Five years jail for illegal hunting, among other things... https://www.westernmagazine.com.au//maximum-penalty-man-/
01.01.2022 Well this is just fantastic. Bloody poachers seem hell bent on destroying the lifestyle. And anyone making excuses for them is just as bad. Get permission or don’t hunt.
