21.01.2022 What a great couple of days! Thankyou to all our volunteers who took part in Emergencies Services: Psychological First Aid training. You are helping to make our community more resilient when faced with the unexpected.

20.01.2022 Congratulations to our volunteer cooks! We are celebrating a successful three month trial of cooking with young people in detention. Every Sunday, volunteers work with a small group of young people to cook lunch for the whole population at the Alice Springs Youth Detention Centre which has been between 6 and 16 young people. The volunteers and the young people work together to decide what they would like to eat and cook, with a focus on fresh food, tasting new things, and sh...aring a love of home cooked food. When the meal is cooked and the kitchen cleaned up, the volunteers eat with the young people and discuss meal planning, favourite foods and upcoming art projects at the centre. The young people love the program because it gives them opportunity to take the initiative and have input on day-to-day decisions in their lives. It has been successful in improving self-regulation and gives the young people a chance to work one-on-one with an adult who wants to pass on knowledge and skills. See more

20.01.2022 We are proud of all of our volunteers! In particular today we are celebrating Lizzie Storor who received the Chief Ministers Youth Volunteer of the Year for Central Australia last night. Lizzie volunteers with young people in detention and brings a great sense of humanity and neutrality to her work. Congratulations Lizzie!

10.01.2022 "I think listening is vital at the early stage. Listening to them and sometimes just smiling, just saying would you like a cup of tea. People will cry and they ...will break down and you can hold their hand or listen to their story, says volunteer Deb, who has been assisting at the Bateman’s Bay evacuation centre. Her own house was threatened in the fires, but once she felt the threat had passed she came to the centre to help. With tears in her eyes, she says you can’t overestimate the value of a friendly smile and a listening ear. It’s all about themIf they need me to be the listener, I’ll be the listener. If they need me to go and get their cup of tea, I’ll go and get their cup of tea. It’s actually an honour and humbling to be able to listen to someone’s story. Thank you to Deb and all our volunteers every hour you give makes a world of difference.

10.01.2022 Today, June 3, is Mabo Day. We remember this day 28 years ago, when the Australian High Court made the landmark decision to overturn 200 years of terra nullius.... The decision followed a lengthy campaign for Indigenous land rights and a ten-year legal case led by Eddie 'Koiki' Mabo. #MDC2020 #MaboDay #NRW2020 #BlackLivesMatter
