24.01.2022 Mmmmm... raspberries. We were very lucky in autumn to have many, many kilos of raspberries donated by a generous Yarra Valley berry grower. Normally we'd make them into jam and sell them at our stalls, but ..... They are frozen and packed in 500g containers - available for purchase by anyone living locally (Seville-Yarra Junction-Hoddles Creek sort of area). $10/kilo. Please send us a message if you are interested.

08.01.2022 The Hoddles Creek Red Cross Branch is encouraging you to make face masks not only for your own use, but for distribution to local community groups or via Red Cross to vulnerable people Red Cross are supporting with food and material aid during COVID19. Imagine that almost all people in Victoria need at least 2 reusable masks each we need as many people to get sewing as possible. We can make a big contribution to helping our communities keep well and safe, reduce waste crea...ted by single-use products, and do something very practical from the safety of our own homes. What we are asking you to do: Raid your sewing closets, baskets and bags or upcycle old clothes or linen to sew masks. Use the DHHS guidelines (https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au//Design%20and%20preparation%20) to create face masks. a. Note: the DHHS pattern is huge. You can modify the shape slightly to get a better fit but make sure you still use the recommended fabrics and 3 layers, and aim to cover as much of the face as you can! b. Also please consider how you make the masks to avoid any potential contamination between you as the producer and the person who will be wearing it. For example, packaging in zip lock bags with a note to the wearer to wash before wearing. c. We also know there is a bit of an elastic shortage in Victoria at the moment! Be creative do what you can with what you have. d. You might also like to consider packaging the masks in sets of 2, so that people can wash and rotate their masks. e. If you really want to go zero waste and avoid packing masks in ziplock bags, think about some other solutions eg. putting together 2/3 mask packs in a drawstring bag made of water-resistant fabric. 3. Support vulnerable people, especially migrants in transition. Once you have a batch of masks ready to be dropped off please get in touch with the Hoddles Creek Branch ([email protected]) and we will work with you to get these safely to a Red Cross office. 4. Support your local community to see if they would like to receive a donation of face masks. For example retirement villages, schools, neighbourhood houses, churches, meals on wheels providers, local groups who are involved in material aid. Use your networks! If you prefer, please contact the Hoddles Creek Branch and we will arrange a local distribution on your behalf. 5. Let us know what you have done! We’d love to say thank you.

07.01.2022 Thanks to Nicole for picking two huge bags of lemons and donating them to Red Cross ... one has been processed ready for making into marmalade and the other is now 12 jars of Preserved Lemons. They should have matured and be ready to use when we are able to have stalls again!
