20.01.2022 The strength and conditioning programs our students are on are completely individualised based on their needs. Our coaches will take into account a number of factors when programming for our athletes. These factors include: -Time in the preseason (pre-season, in season, finals, off season) -Position the athlete plays ... -Athletes goals -Level the athlete plays at -Previous and current injuries -Mobility and movement patterns of the athlete In this video our student Izzy is performing block pulls for the development of his glutes and hamstrings. Athletes who lack mobility can use this exercise in replacement of deadlifts from the floor. 15.01.2022 Thanks to our Director and High Performance Coordinator at Balwyn Tigers Football Club Luke O'Shannessy for having our mindset coach Tiffany out to present to his athletes on mindset and goal setting last week! As a group the athletes created some goals around their last game of the year and into their individual seasons next year. With off-season just around the corner, now is the time to start thinking about your club's approach to the 2018 season. ... Our team has a limited number of places left to run in-club coach and club development programs in 2017. To book in your club, or for more information about our programs, please email us at [email protected] or PM the page!

15.01.2022 Talk about a bombshell! Luke Hodge may not retire in 2018 and looks to play with the Brisbane Lions. How do you Hawthorn Football Club fans feel about this move?

14.01.2022 Our goal through the Australian Rules Football College and the Indigenous Football College is to create CHAMPIONS OF CHANGE. It is our belief that in using football as a common love we can unite Indigenous Australians and non-Indigenous Australians, as well as immigrants to Australia, to learn about each other and each other's culture. Through the integration of students from both College's we believe that we can facilitate a ripple effect throughout the Australian culture ...to create more acceptance, understanding and leadership. Our 2018 Enrolments for MELBOURNE, HORSHAM, BENDIGO & the INDIGENOUS FOOTBALL COLLEGE are now open! 13.01.2022 ICYMI: A farewell fit for 3 legends

13.01.2022 At the College we often change up the balls we use in drills for a range of reasons... Practicing with balls a different shape to a footy has been shown to help improve ball handling skills. The change in the ball shape also challenges the brain and creates new neural pathways In this drill we also used a basketball to practice body work and reading the ball in flight. ... We have a range of new workshops coming out soon to show you what the College is all about! Stay tuned here for more information. Our 2018 Enrolments for Melbourne, Horsham, Bendigo and the Indigenous Football College are now open. 12.01.2022 Over the recent weeks the sporting arena around the world has been filled with politics. Last week the AFL came under heavy criticism from Sam Newman in regards to changing the AFL sign to "YES" in support of their equality vote. Today in America we seen an anthem protest of some kind from every NFL team who took to the field following President Trump's comments about firing players who protest in games. ... Historically, the sporting arena has always been used to convey political messages. Whether we look at the 1956 Melbourne games 8 different countries boycotted the games in political protest or Mexico City in 1968 where John Carlos and Tommie Smith gave the "black power salute" to bring awareness to racial injustices in America, countries and players have long used their platform to bring awareness to their perceived injustices. So what do you think? Is there a place for politics in sport?

12.01.2022 Tigers fans will be happy about this one! It was one of the most speculated trades coming into finals...do you think Dusty made the right decision?

11.01.2022 Our Human & High Performance program is open to athletes from all sports, of all ages. Here we have Surf Boat Rower Sally completing trap bar deadlifts to increase posterior chain strength and power. Sally has a tendency to lift her head and chin up which causes her to lose neutral spine. A quick fix to this is to get the lifter/athlete to place the neck of their training top in their teeth. ... As the video shows it really helps Sally to keep her head still, allowing her to maintain neutral spine and apply force through her whole body and reduce chance of injury. For more information about our Human & High Performance Program, email us at [email protected]

09.01.2022 Congratulations to our friends over at North Melbourne Football Club, as well as the Geelong Cats for being selected to join the AFL Women's competition in 2019! They will be followed by 4 more teams in 2020 - Gold Coast Suns, Richmond FC, St Kilda Football Club and West Coast Eagles. So far Essendon Football Club and Hawthorn Football Club have been unsuccessful in their bids for an AFLW team.

08.01.2022 ATTENTION GERMAPHOBES TAG YOUR FILTHIEST FRIEND At ARFC our students embrace professionalism as athletes from all angles. ... Its important to undertake good personal hygiene with frequent hand washing and showering with soap and water after all practises and games. A little experiment we conducted; the slice of bread on the right was handled by students after practise and the slice on the left was handled after washing hands with soap. The results after 2 weeks are convincing #ewww See more

06.01.2022 JUGGLING FOR AFL... Last week our coach Luke had our students practicing their juggling skills. Studies have shown that working with balls of any size and shape will improve footy ball handling in the long run. ... The other benefits of juggling? It increases the amount of grey matter and neural connections in your brains (aka it makes you smarter and more adaptable!) And it improves focus and concentration. Our coaches have a different way of approaching footy coaching to get the best out of each individual athlete. ARE YOU OUR NEXT RECRUIT? Our 2018 Enrolments for Melbourne, Horsham, Bendigo and our Indigneous Program are now open. 06.01.2022 At the Australian Rules Football College our greatest focus is on education. This education focus comes in a range of obvious ways: -our students develop vocational skills to get them job ready -our students learn about how the body works and how to best prepare their individual bodies for their sport and goals ... -our students learn more about the game and become better physically and mentally on game day But our favourite part of the program is the not-so-obvious life skills we build into the program. Through our program our students learn the life skills not typically taught anywhere else: -communication -leadership -giving and receiving feedback -decision making -critical thinking -personal and environmental hygiene -social responsibility Our students use the same 360 feedback system used at Hawthorn during their dynasty era. Each week our current captain will receive feedback from the other students about how they can improve their leadership style and what they did well. During Reuvi's captaincy his goal was to talk in front of the group with more conviction. The feedback he received from the students (delivered by Jack) gave him more confidence to give instructions and delegate tasks to his peers. Our 2018 Enrolments for Horsham, Bendigo, Melbourne and the Indigenous Football College are now open! ARE YOU OUR NEXT RECRUIT? Click on the link below for more info about our programs or to pre-enrol and determine your eligibility. https://ausrulesfc.com/squeeze-page14552544
