23.01.2022 You know you going slow when a little Fokker overtakes you.

23.01.2022 PHOENIX Day 3: Direct to Caboolture fighting off a very strong head wind it only took 55 minutes for the Searey to climb to 9500 feet to avoid 20 to 30 kn headwinds. 95% of the trip was conducted in clear blue skies, unfortunately the last 5% was somewhat marginal cloud and rain. Louise Humble flying in a jabiru took the wise decision of landing and staying overnight at Kingaroy before flying to Caboolture the next day. Two days at Caboolture, which was a welcome relief, Friday was a rest day and a day to visit some museums the Queensland air Museum in Caloundra and the TAVAS Museum at Caboolture.

23.01.2022 Anchored for lunch at Hill Inlet, Whitsundays. Qld

21.01.2022 Does anybody know of a Siai Marchetti Riviera FN-333 that is still operational anywhere, except ours that is based in Germany?

20.01.2022 Departing Brisbane, thank you to everyone involved in Aviation Expo we had a fantastic day. Over 10,000 people visited the one-day event.

20.01.2022 PHOENIX Day 2:Charleville 3.10 Searey hours only 1.55 SeaBear hours! Arriving around lunchtime were able to take time to look around the town and a tour of the hotel we stayed in Hotel Corones Charleville. We also had time to travel out to the area where the Vickers Vimy had its forced landing due to engine trouble, and check out the plark that has just been newly installed. Charleville was very waterlogged after recent rains. Dinner that night was at the hotel with approximately eight local people joining us for a great pub meal.

19.01.2022 A Melbourne pilot has paid tribute to the Anzacs in a dawn flight with a difference. Michael Smith spent four hours in the sky, mapping an incredible flight path in the shape of the rising sun badge. www.7NEWS.com.au #7NEWS

18.01.2022 This little Fokker followed me all the way home! 20 nautical mile flight with six frequency changes to Brisbane and seven frequency changes for the return flight to Caboolture.

15.01.2022 PHOENIX Day 4: Friday night was the Vimy dinner at the Caboolture Clubhouse with over 70 guests attending. This was a dress up event with nearly everyone getting into the spirit of the event. Michael Smith did a great presentation which kept everyone on the edge of their seats, retracing his round the world flights and adventures. A fantastic night of food, dancing, presentations, and catching up with fellow aviators.

14.01.2022 Phoenix:Next adventure direct Caboolture to Longreach, to join up with the Smith Flight Commemoration Group retracing the Vickers Vimy flight from Darwin to Adelaide a century ago. Departing Caboolture Tuesday 10th March. Standby for updates.

08.01.2022 Sharing the around the world adventure on the Aussie speaking circuit showed me the power of a story. This eventually led to a move to the US specifically to st...art a speaking business following my spinal cord injury. We have just launched the business, and although the events industry has just come to a halt, we are sharing content, starting a podcast and prepping for when the world normalizes. I am excited to see the impact we can have. One of our US projects was completely re-releasing Born to Fly, with new content and design. It arrived yesterday! 07.01.2022 Live every day like it is your last and one day you'll be right, is my favourite saying, and one day this week could have been very close to my last day, it was...n't for my sister Julie and good friends Phil Clare, and Rebecca Fielding fast tracking medical assistance. First of all there is no need to panic or start celebrating, as I am now as good as new! I now have a new piece of internal jewellery in the form of a titanium stint. The timeline went something like this. Last Friday spent the day at the first cricket test match in corporate box at the Gabba, (thanks Colin and Naomi) after a great day, and just a couple of beers!? I caught the train home. Walking back from the train station is a 10 minute walk and a steep hill, which I can normally do without having to stop to catch my breath. Not the case on Friday I started getting pains in my left arm and elbow, and needed to stop to catch my breath several times. After arriving home and several more drinks with neighbours I was back to what I thought was normal. But decided that this needed some more investigation and made an appointment to see GP first thing Monday morning. In hindsight should have ordered ambulance instead of Bourbon and Coke. Anyway did what most stubborn males would do, and decided to go to a Whiskey, and Cigar lunch at Clinton's unit. Great Boy's, afternoon of Whiskeys, and Steak, no Cigars for me. Sunday went to Caboolture and play with plane, on the way home I remembered I had a sister that was a nurse and since I still had a slight chest pain I thought I would drop in and get blood pressure and advice. Julie's advice was go straight to hospital, pigheaded David decides GP visit first thing Monday morning. Survived till Monday morning. Rang medical clinic to see if my favourite doctor was available who I hadn't seen for more than two years, No... However after explaining symptoms, I had a 9 o'clock appointment with second favourite doctor. Who sent me off for blood tests, chest x-ray, and booked me in for CT coronary angiogram. That's the big donut machine, and they inject dye into your blood to see if there are any blockages. Results back same day which indicated blockages in two arteries. By this time our neighbour Rebecca fast tracked me to see specialist Dr Elisabeth Donnelly, Queensland Cardiovascular Group who rang me first thing Wednesday morning to pack a bag, and come in for Stress Echo test which I managed to fail dismally, I only lasted about five minutes on the treadmill, straight to hospital room and surgery booked following day, Thursday. Surgery went really well I now have a titanium stint in one of my main arteries to my heart, I was awake throughout the whole procedure which was really cool. The whole surgery is conducted via a artery in my wrist, overnight for observation, and back home today Friday. Finding the right words to thank people that have just saved your life is difficult and I wish there was something better to say than just thank you. Dr Roland Hilling-Smith, Dr Elisabeth Donnelly, Phil Clare, My sisters Julie and Marcie Rebecca Fielding, Staff at Queensland Cardiovascular Group and St Vincent's private hospital. And especially Cheryl who not only had to deal with my dramas but our dog Charlie's eye surgery on the same day I was admitted to hospital. I'll try not to be so pigheaded in the future, love you Cheryl. Thank you my friends.

07.01.2022 Mission complete! well done Smithy!
