24.01.2022 Nestled between the skyscrapers of the Parramatta CBD, the Lancer Barracks played host to dignitaries, veterans and current serving soldiers to celebrate the 134th anniversary of the 1st/15th Royal New South Wales Lancers. Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Andrew White, spoke of the proud history of the Lancers and their continuing responsibility to look after each other and to adapt to the ever-changing circumstances of service as new fighting vehicles are introduced into the Army; fighting vehicles which the young soldiers present will work with and on in the years to come. Happy birthday 1st/15th Royal New South Wales Lancers.

22.01.2022 From 13th to 17th May, 5th Brigade was very proud to host the Defence Work Experience Kids program. The participants conducted visits to units from 5th Brigade and get a close-up experience with a number of different roles within the Army. The program introduced the work experience kids to a soldier’s equipment and weapons, the many different jobs done in the Army, and gave the work experience kids a taste of what life is like in both full-time and part-time service. Most important of all, the kids had a great time, and so did our soldiers who spent the time talking about their jobs!

21.01.2022 Tonight was Brigadier Michael Bond’s final Commander’s evening at Holsworthy Officers Mess. He also acknowledged the promotion of two lieutenants from 5th Engineer Regiment amongst others. The Brigade recognises the tremendous contribution our commander has made over the past three years, where he has overseen the greatest number of Reservists join in deployments and operations than ever before. Best wishes for the future.

21.01.2022 The part-time soldiers of the 2nd/17th Royal New South Wales Regiment spent the weekend doing small-arms weapons training. Expert coaching helped the soldiers score progressively higher as the weekend progressed. As we continue to deploy soldiers in support of 7th Brigade (https://www.facebook.com/7thBrigade), this sort of training is vital to see that our soldiers are prepared for operations. Weapons used on the training included: - The self-loading 9mm pistol https://www.ar...my.gov.au//self-loading-pistol-9-millimetre- - The Enhanced F88 Rifle https://www.army.gov.au//equipment/small-arms/enhanced-f88 What is like to be a part-time infantry soldier? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJWwZUIEfME

20.01.2022 After the Brigade Commander called on all members of 5th Brigade Units to get their nominations in for the NSW Employer Support Awards and swamp these awards they did just that. With over 30 employers of 5th Brigade being finalists on the night the chances of winning were high. Lieutenant Colonel Bowd, Commanding Officer of 5 CSSB nominated his employer, Sydney Trains, and they were winners of the Large Public Sector category at the Awards Ceremony held at Doltone House, Sy...dney. The awards were presented by the His Excellency the Governor of NSW. (image left to right) His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC, DSC, (Ret’d), Mr Howard Collins, OBE, Chief Executive Sydney Trains, Colonel Michael Miller, Lieutenant Colonel Reuben Bowd, Colonel Warwick Young, representing Commander 5th Brigade and Chair Defence Reserves Support Council NSW Mr James Digges.

19.01.2022 In an effort that will be hard to match, 5 Brigade members deployed on Operation RESOLUTE were inserted by V-22 Ospreys into the parade ground for their recent medal parade in Darwin. Operation RESOLUTE is the ADF's contribution to the Whole-of-Government effort to protect Australia's borders and offshore maritime interests. The parade was held in front of family and friends and celebrated the success of a busy rotation on the Operation. The rotation is now safely home ready to resume their normal civilian and military lives. Thanks for your service.

15.01.2022 5 Brigade appreciates the cooperation of the employers of its Part-time members. To help them understand what military service is about they were invited on the annual Exercise Executive Stretch held on Holsworthy base two weeks ago. Seventeen diverse employers were volunteered by their Reservists to join up for two days of effort, challenges and amazing experiences. Make sure you sign your boss up for EES2020.

15.01.2022 I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul. Those defiant words conclude William Henley’s poem ‘Invictus’, the namesake of the #InvictusGames. The Games give wounded and ill service men and women the chance to compete and showcase the best of the human spirit: unconquered; unbowed; unafraid. Throughout the games, Operation Invincible Joint Task Force (JTF) 646 was there to support competitors, their families, spectators and Games’ organisers. 5th Brigade - ...Australian Army members were a crucial part of that Task Force. Over the coming weeks we’ll feature a series of photos showing the contribution JTF members made. Today’s photo is of JTF soldiers meeting Australian competitor Jeff Wright, who served as a driver in the Australian Army (including in Timor Leste in 1999). His chosen sports at Invictus wheelchair rugby and basketball are some of the most intense spectators could witness and a testament to that unconquered spirit. #IG2018 #MakeYourMarkDownUnder

11.01.2022 At the recent Exercise Executive Stretch, employers of part-time members of 5 Bde had the opportunity to participate in a Combat First Aid lesson with LT Stuart King. Exercise Executive Stretch gives employers the opportunity to spend two days in the life of a part-time soldier in Army. If you would like to see your boss in 'The Green', nominate them for the next round!

11.01.2022 Following the success the 5th Brigade's support to the Invictus Games in 2018, the Brigade was called on again to support the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (Sydney) under Operation Tartan Oceania 19. All units in the formation contributed members who provided logistical, ceremonial, liaison and other effects in support of the 1,500 cast from 13 nations and 300 crew. 11.01.2022 Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Rick Burr has wished all members and their families a safe and Merry Christmas.

10.01.2022 The units of 5th Brigade now link up to train directly with their part-time counterparts from 7th Brigade. Our soldiers are working with the most up-to-date equipment and with the most modern techniques. The soldiers of the 1st/15th Royal News South Wales Lancers are pretty keen to get involved and work alongside the 2nd/14th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) on their training activities like the one 7th Brigade is showing off here.

09.01.2022 "This Brigade is writing a new and unparalleled history of the part-time force in the Australian Army. Please understand that and take the time to enjoy the moment. I have been given the rare honour of an extension for a third year as your commander. I have accepted it with great pleasure. I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and I look forward to serving in support of you in 2019." - Brigadier Bond, Commander 5th Brigade - Australian Army

07.01.2022 Over the Easter period, 16 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people from around Australia moved to Holsworthy Barracks to participate in an Indigenous Leadership and Resilience Program. The program was a successful partnership between the 5th Brigade and the Yalari organisation. The program was run by Indigenous soldiers from across the 5th Brigade. There was a heavy focus on culture across the week and the lived-expertise, perspectives, values and knowledge of Abor...iginal and Torres Strait Islander people were truly respected and valued. The week involved an innovative training and mentoring experience giving the selected participants knowledge and experience in Defence training and values. A highlight was ANZAC Day at the War memorial. Participant feedback included: I made a family out of 5th Brigade. and It was the best week of my life. The photos speak volumes. See more

07.01.2022 By providing a new and real-life urban training setting to help train the dogs, 4/3 RNSWR has once again added to Army's capability. Well done!

05.01.2022 Exercise Executive Stretch 2018 - the opportunity for civilian employers of part-time Army members to walk in their shoes - has just wrapped up. After two days experiencing Army life - including PT, the over-pool confidence course and weapons training - these Executives have a much better appreciation of the training part-time soldiers undergo when they are not at their other job. If you're a part-time soldier, nominate your employer for the next round!

05.01.2022 16 young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people came to 5 Brigade to find their warrior spirit. Initially, I went into this experience incredibly apprehensive. From one to ten, I was probably a two. I didn't know what to expect other than this week would involve a lot of yelling. I did not expect to come out of this experience as I have which is empowered, understanding, compassionate, proud, introspective and far more culturally and emotionally resilient. particip...ant, aged 21. The program was run by our own Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander soldiers from across the brigade and demonstrated the respect we hold for Indigenous Australians, their culture, their knowledge, their history and their future. 03.01.2022 The 5th Brigade pays tribute to the life and times of Daphne Dunn who has passed away at the age of 99. Daphne was the widow of New Guinea campaign Victoria Cross recipient Lt Chowne. Daphne was a real favourite with 5th Brigade members at the Invictus Games. She chose to sit with us for the closing ceremony, soldiers taking it in turn to sit beside her wheelchair, holding her hand.

02.01.2022 A proud part of the 37 soldiers deploying from 5 Brigade.

02.01.2022 Our soldiers are preparing for the final phase of a hard week of training. Follow the action with 4th/3rd Battalion, Royal New South Wales Regiment.
