25.01.2022 Withdrawal symptoms are setting in. Our aircrew are itching to find sharks near our beaches after the grounding fiasco of the past 3 weeks.

22.01.2022 The Illawarra Mercury reported this morning that authorities closed Wollongong beaches following two shark sightings this morning. A beach-goer raised the alarm about 9am after spotting a shark off City Beach. Another sighting was reported 30 minutes later off North Beach. Wollongong City Council lifeguards deployed a jet ski to investigate. City Beach, North Beach and Fairy Meadow Beach were closed in the meantime. The Australian Aerial Patrol responded to the sightings shortly after with their fixed wing aerial surveillance of each of the areas. After several orbits of each beach the Aerial Patrol's crew confirmed no shark sightings and reported accordingly to the on-duty lifeguards.

20.01.2022 The Australian Aerial Patrol crew were kept busy again today with a large school of fish sighted close to Fairy Meadow Beach and another nine schools off Windang Beach. A 2m shark was sighted near Port Kembla with no threat to swimmers at the time of the sighting.. Council lifeguard was advised and the AAP maintained a surveillance of the area during each pass with the shark sighted on each occasion again posing no threat to swimmers or surfers.

19.01.2022 Every now and then we hear about members of our community who really do go above and beyond for the sake of us all, and no one fits that description better than German Born Renate Weiss. The 87 year old is retiring as a shark spotter and volunteer for the Bendigo Bank Aerial Patrol.

17.01.2022 AAP volunteers undertaking their ditching and life raft training in readiness for any emergency that might arise during a beach patrol flight. One never knows when this situation might arise. Fingers crossed it never does!

08.01.2022 The Aerial Patrol's deployment of a helibox over many years has proved valuable in search and rescue on both land and water. This, a demonstration on the South Coast of NSW, shows the accuracy of the drops from AIRPAT 1, the AAP's Partenavia aircraft.

02.01.2022 The Illawarra’s iconic red and yellow shark-spotting Australian Aerial Patrol planes were back in the sky on Saturday.

02.01.2022 The Australian Aerial Patrol responded to two call-outs today after a shark had been sighted at a Kiama (NSW) beach. Here are the reports from the plane's flight coordinator: This morning's report - Australian Aerial Patrol... POST FLIGHT REPORT Date: 11-04-16 Aircraft: VH-APH Surf Conditions Pilot: Andrew Jones Cloud: Flight Coordinator: Nathan Schlodder Visibility: Observer: Wind: Call Out Report Today the AAP was tasked to a shark sighting in the kiama area after 10:00am this morning, We had departed just after 10:30 and flew straight to the kiama area, we had advised kiama lifeguard of our intentions to fly around the area and search for the shark that had been spotted earlier in the morning. We had flown about 10 + orbits around the area and had sighted nothing other than a large stingray & a large school of fish which may be the reason for why the shark was spotted in the area this morning. After that we had advised kiama lifeguard that we had nothing sighted in the area what so ever and had returned to base. Aircraft washed & Returned to hangar FC Nathan Schlodder This afternoon's report - Australian Aerial Patrol POST FLIGHT REPORT Date: 11-04-16 Aircraft: VH-APH Surf Conditions: Pilot: Andrew Jones Cloud: Flight Coordinator: Nathan Schlodder Visibility: Observer: Wind: Report for 2nd callout: The Aerial Patrol was again called back up for a second time today due to another sighting of 2 sharks in the kiama area at kendalls beach, it was believed that they were bull sharks, originally spotted by the life guards on a jet ski, we had departed just after 14:00hrs and headed straight there, we had provided over head coverage and had spotted the 2 sharks amongst a large school of fish, we had advised kiama lifeguard that we had spotted the sharks & sounded the siren as the sharks were close to the beach and there were people in the water at the time. The beach was closed and people had been evacuated from the water. Not long later we had spotted 2 more sharks just north of Kendall’s beach around the point towards kiama surf beach inside a large school of fish, we had then yet again notified kiama lifeguard of the sharks and kiama surf beach was closed as well. During the time that we there, we were also asked to provide direction to the sharks locations for the guys on the jetski The beaches are closed and will remain so for the remainder of the night until tomorrow FC Nathan Schlodder
