15.01.2022 PC Colts and Registrations // It has come to the attention of the AAA office and Board, the alarming amount of horses who still have a PC colt rego with our studbook, that are aged, breeding or being advertised as stallion and geldings with their colt registration number. When a colt is registered with the AAA Ltd it is given a PC status registration. This PC status, stays with the colt until it is approved by the AAA Ltd as eligible to breeding after completing the Stallion... Upgrade process. (Forms on our website) Any AAA Ltd registered colt, who turns two years of age must be upgraded to a stallion BEFORE you are eligible to breed. This upgrade process requires a veterinary inspection, updated photos and some paperwork/fees. Also in the case that a colt has been gelded, you must inform the AAA Ltd with a Colt to Gelding Notification (forms on website). The horse will have their rego number altered to a gelding status and new papers to show they are now a gelding. These processes ensure our studbook stays up to date and we can track the correct information of Appaloosas in Australia. It also allows our members to see correct horse information on the studbook, who may be looking to buy your horse or breed to your stallion. Anyone looking to buy or breed, whether you or the stallion owners are members or not, it is imperative that you check the horses papers and registration are actually correct with the AAA Ltd before you purchase/breed to that horse. By breeding to a PC registered horse, you are at risk of that resulting progeny not being approved or eligible for registration. The Board will be going through the large list of horses who have not had their status upgraded and contacting those owners in the near future. Any owner who wants to start this upgrade process, please go to our forms page on the website and start your paperwork today. If you are uncertain about this process or need help, be sure to ring the AAA Ltd office on Mondays or Wednesdays between 10 and 3 for details.

03.01.2022 IMPORTANT NOTICE // QUARTER HORSE OUTCROSS DNA As of 23/04/2020 the Australian Appaloosa Association Ltd has been forced to make essential changes to our Studbook Outcross Registry, involving ALL Quarter Horse stallions/mares residing in Australia (Australian bred and imported) and offshore (imported) semen used in Australian Appaloosa breeding programs. What began on the date above as denied access to only Imported QH horse and imported semen DNA markers (directed through f...rom the AmQHA to the AQHA), has now progressed over the course of the past few weeks to no access to ANY QH DNA for registration purposes without prior approvals. The AAA Ltd was only informed through Racing Australia after sending off registrations for DNA parent verification. Our office then having to contact and chase confirmations of this from the AQHA. What this means for breeders: - Imported QH stallions or mares We have NO access to any DNA markers at all required for us to register any Appaloosa progeny by an imported QH Stallion or imported semen until we collect our own DNA data. - Australian Bred Stallions or Mares We have NO access to DNA markers, however on a case by case basis, we must contact the AQHA office to request the use of that DNA each time, even if you as the Appaloosa member are actually the owner of that QH mare or stallion. The AAA Ltd have been unexpectedly forced to make these essential changes to our Outcross processes and with the guidance and support of Racing Australia we are building our own database for QH Outcross DNA. All Imported stallions and mares and imported semen MUST be added to our database, and we are requesting the support of all QH stallions and mares who regularly breed Appaloosa progeny, to help us build our database so we can continue to register Outcross progeny. Kits are available from the AAA Ltd Office. The kit requires you to pull hair and return to the AAA Ltd office, along with the completed DNA recording form and the associated fee of $80, to cover the laboratory costs of testing your horse. A stamped self-addressed envelope will be supplied for your convenience. To organise your kit to be sent to you, please email [email protected] If you wish to have further discussions in regards to this, please dont hesitate to contact our AAA Ltd office, Monday or Wednesday between 10 am and 3 pm or send an email.
