24.01.2022 Sappers, Soldiers, family and friends of 1 CER: We have had a very busy week preparing and deploying #ourpeople to assist the National effort to fight the bushfire threat. Many of us have had Christmas holidays disrupted and have given up valuable time with loved ones, after a very busy 2019, in the course of our duty. Your help and support is appreciated by the thousands of Australians who have been fighting the fires for weeks, and by those who have lost homes, livestock, a...nd family. 1 CER is currently supporting operations in SA, NSW and VIC, and more of our people will deploy in the next 48h. With conditions remaining very difficult across multiple states, the Regiment will continue to support fire preparation / recovery and general operations for now, and so long as we are needed. For those remaining in Darwin, the remainder of 1 CER stands ready, as always, to assist our community should storm, cyclone or flood recovery operations be required. If only we could move some of the rain down South... You should be proud of the dedication and skill demonstrated by our people in the course of their duty - every day, but especially so when they rise to the challenge under difficult circumstances. Thank you for your service and support. CO 1 CER #ubique #1CER #followthesapper #OpBushfireAssist

18.01.2022 Good morning all. This is a great event for anyone new to Darwin, or for those who need a reminder about all the great things on offer.

17.01.2022 #ourpeople on Kangaroo Island continue to remove hazards from the local community as a part of #OpBushfireAssist. Since forming in early January, the combined Engineer contingent on Kangaroo Island has cleared over 200km of fire-affected routes. Throughout much of January, the priority was to re-open major roads across the Island to support Emergency Services and immediate relief efforts and to enable Government services to gain access to conduct assessments for subsequent wo...rks. Through late January this transitioned to the conduct of detailed back clearances to remove trees and vegetation that will cause longer-term hazards to the Kangaroo Island community. The sustained rate of effort and work ethic of the team over the last 6x weeks has been outstanding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TYIqmR4FJ0 #followthesapper

14.01.2022 #ourpeople deployed on #OpBushfireAssist have been partnering with conservation groups on Kangaroo Island to support the protection the native Dunnart. The Kangaroo Island Dunnart is a critically endangered carnivorous marsupial numbering in the only few hundred before the devastating bushfires. LCPL Gillan from 5 Troop has led a composite team of #1CER and #3FdSqn #sappers to cut fencelines around the last surviving Dunnart habitat on the Island to enable conservation groups... to erect a vermin proof fence to assure the regeneration of this unique native animal. Who would've thought skills originally honed for warfighting are just as versatile to support fauna and flora conservation and recovery. #followthesapper #goodsoldiering

13.01.2022 #ourpeople deployed on #OpBushfireAssist have further assisted the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park with the construction of a soft release enclosure for Koalas building on LCPL Nunn's previous construction work at the Park. LCPL McFadyen and his team from 5 Tp have supported the expansion of the park's capacity to support the huge increase in Koala numbers as a result of the bushfire's devastating impact on the Island's native fauna. #followthesapper #GoodSoldiering

12.01.2022 #sappers not only from #1CER but from across the Corps and even the Tasman, have been supporting SA Country Fire Service since arriving on Kangaroo Island on 06 Jan 20 as a part of #OpBushfireAssist. The combined efforts of ADF Plant Operators and Local Government Association of South Australia have seen over 150km of firebreaks constructed and continued support to break apart hot spots preventing future breakouts if high fire danger conditions return. Grader lines through pa...ddocks prevent the run of grassfires across farmlands, slowing and disrupting the fire's spread and reinforcing firefighting efforts. Dozers and Loaders have cut critical fire breaks into tough to access bush to deny the fire's breakout into the Island's remaining Conservation Areas. Separately, Dozers and Loaders have been used to break apart piled timber and forestry debris that continues to smoulder even when buried well after the fire has passed; enabling the CFS to douse the embers and prevent the hot spots from flaring up in the future. The construction of firebreaks requires a constant, careful balance between avoiding unnecessary destruction of the Island's remaining native flora and the immediate need to contain the fire. 12.01.2022 Family and Friends of 1 CER, The Sappers and Soldiers of 1 CER continue to do outstanding work across SA, VIC and NSW. Our engineer tasks are very diverse and include route reconnaissance and road clearance/opening, clearing fire breaks/trails, water production, planning support to local government, helping to fix fences, recovering and burying dead livestock and animals, and anything we can to support people hurting from the fires. Engineers are conducting recovery and relie...f operations simultaneously; while weather conditions have eased in some areas, in other areas things remain difficult and the risk of fire remains high. As a team with the emergency services, rural fire services and state/local governments, #ourpeople are giving their all to help our fellow Australians; it is an honour and a privilege to meaningfully contribute when so many are in need. While most of our deployed people have mobile phone reception, please reach out to the duty officer if you need information. The bushfire crisis is the ADF’s (and hence the Regiment’s) Main Effort, and will remain so for the time being. Thank you for your continued support for our people, and for the sacrifice every family makes when their loved one is deployed. UBIQUE CO 1 CER #followthesapper #1CER #OpBushfireAssist

11.01.2022 #Ourpeople are heading south to support Operation Bushfire Assist in Victoria and South Australia. We are currently assisting emergency and recovery operations on Kangaroo Island and in various locations across Victoria.

11.01.2022 EDD DOMINO 10 Feb 2010 19 Sep 2020 Salute to an Explosive Detection Dog... Honouring the life of EDD Domino. EDD Domino served five years in the Australian Army as an Explosive Detection Dog. 11.01.2022 #1CER continues to support #OpBushfireAssist with #ourpeople remaining deployed across SE Australia. On Kangaroo Island, LCPL Nunn from Construction Troop has been busy supporting the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park to expand their facilities to care for the huge influx of injured wildlife as a result of the devastating fires that have tore through over half the island. The park continues to receive large numbers of koalas found across the island either injured from the fires o...r suffering from exhaustion resulting from the loss of their habitat. The work to expand the park's facilities will provide more capacity and fit for purpose facilities to support the ongoing care and rehabilitation of the island's unique fauna. LCPL Nunn is one of the more then 500 ADF personnel who constitute the Emergency Support Force - Kangaroo Island providing immediate relief support to the Kangaroo Island community, and assisting in the care and rehabilitation of the island's natural beauty. #followthesapper #GoodSoldiering

05.01.2022 G'day members, friends and family of the Regiment. Like much of Australia, 1 CER is working hard at this very difficult time. 1 CER is (with all of the ADF) following the Government's direction, policy and laws on COVID-19 for the wellbeing of all Australians. The 1 CER duty and welfare system remains intact, and while we work through what the immediate future of training and operations looks like, we remain available - please reach out if you need support. We will provide ...updated contact lists very soon. It was only two weeks ago that I wrote to you to cancel the 1 CER open/family day, and I regret this missed chance to meet with many of you. This is a difficult time for our Nation and many of our fellow Australians, and clear communications is critical. But I know we will get through this. the Regiment is blessed with wonderful people and families. I know our Sappers and Soldiers will be great people, soldiers and citizens in the months ahead - thank you for your support. The Regiment's primary communication tool to Regimental members and families over coming months will be ForceNet, available to serving members and sponsored Defence family members. It is accessible via desktop, or the app can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store. https://www.forcenet.gov.au/ UBIQUE LTCOL Scott Jamieson CO 1 CER

03.01.2022 A most unusual ANZAC day; however, as always it is a time for reflection on the sacrifice of others, on our duty and love for our country, our family and our mates. Perhaps also for how fortunate we are in Australia at such a difficult time for people across the globe. Thanks to the 1 CER duty section who, with the CO and RSM, represented the unit and all who have gone before us at the Regimental memorial this morning. Though we are not together in the flesh, the thoughts of the Regiment are as one today - with all who've gone before us; to all who have fallen; to all those who carry the scars of past battles, and to the loved ones who remain behind. Thank you for your service. Lest we forget. #lestweforget #1CER #UBIQUE
