05.01.2022 On this day we recognise the birthday of the Royal Australian Engineers (#RAE) and the Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps (#RAAOC). On 01 July 1902, all colonial engineer units amalgamated as the Corps of Engineers. On 31 January 1936, when the corps was given Royal Assent, the engineer units of the regular permanent force and reserve citizen military forces joined together to form the Royal Australian Engineers. The RAE hat badge features the motto "Honi soit qui mal y pen...se" meaning evil be to him who evil thinks, awarded in 1947 for the corps efforts during World War II. This motto is also featured on the hat badge of RAAOC, also formed on 01 July 1902. The logistics support element of 2 CER has existed in various forms throughout the history of the regiment. Today, it is held under the title of Operational Support Squadron (OSS). OSS supplies and maintains the stores and equipment essential for the delivery of capability. These photos illustrate our dependence on those stores and equipment. Photos and captions: - Australian War Memorial - National Library of Australia - Department of Defence
