13.01.2022 Remember me: the lost diggers of Vignacourt Captured on glass, printed into postcards and posted home, portrait photographs from the French village of Vignacour...t during the First World War enabled soldiers to maintain a fragile link with loved ones in Australia. Showcasing a selection of handmade darkroom prints this traveling exhibition is a unique and moving window into another time and place. It’s also the story of an enterprising photographer who took the opportunity to establish a business photographing troops as they headed to and from the battlefields on the Somme. Saturday 3 February at 2pm The Warwick Art Gallery Australian War Memorial’s Curator of Photographs, Joanne Smedley will present a talk that gives a deeper insight into The lost diggers of Vignacourt exhibition and the important role these photos play in our nation’s history. 07.01.2022 Battlefield News - March 2018 -

02.01.2022 In yesterday’s video, archaeologists and specialists identified Captain Walker’s remains a century after he gave his life in Flanders Fields. Captain Walker's nephew shares what he knows about his uncle Jack. This video contains images of skeletal human remains (Part 4/6).

02.01.2022 Here's a recent testimonial from another happy customer from one of our Western Front Day Tours... "2008 was great, but 2018 was terrific, sensational, bonzer, ...fabulous! It was all I hoped for - the booklet was a winner and the caps were very well received and worn. The two hotels were good, in fact, very good! Everything went like clockwork. Our battlefield guide, Dennis, was great and he did well and his knowledge was fantastic as he made my dad’s tour of duty come alive from Menin Gate to Anzac day and all in-between was perfect. Thanks a million for your faultless organising of the trip and I owe you a Beer!" Jim Graham If you missed out on the chance to attend one of our centenary tours this year, then perhaps you could consider a Western Front day tour instead? We have several to choose from and as you can see we have lot of happy customers. View our day tours at https://bit.ly/2xbkiQY

02.01.2022 John Waller, Director of Boronia Travel, was lucky to catch up with Kenan Çelik OAM, our world-renowned Turkish guide on Gallipoli (bottom left), and celebrated... author of Gallipoli and The Great War, Les Carlyon (bottom right), and his lovely wife Denise, during Kenan's quick visit to Melbourne last weekend. In 2000, Kenan was awarded the Order of Australia, our highest civil honour, by the Australian government in recognition of his services to Australian history, becoming the first Turkish citizen to receive this award. Kenan also offers private one-day Gallipoli tours, which is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to know about the military history on the battlefields, and the ancient cities of Troy and Assos. 01.01.2022 A crowded city - Ovillers Military Cemetery on the 1916 battlefields of the Somme, close to Pozieres. There are 3,440 Commonwealth servicemen of the First World War buried or commemorated here. Of these, 2,480 are unidentified - some of the missing. Yet it is less than a third of the size of the biggest cemeteries on the Western Front.
