The Ekadashi that concurs with the Shukla Paksha of the Adhik/ Purushottam Maas/ Mala Maasa is called Padmini Ekadashi. Padmini Ekadashi Vrat is observed only during the year when the Adhik Maas is present. As this Ekadashi has occurred during the Chaturmas period, which doubles its importance. Once, Pandava King Yudhishthira asked Lord Krishna about the Ekadashi Vrat of the Adhik/Mala or Purushottam Maas. And to answer all his questions related to the Vrat, Lord Krishna narrated the story related to the significant day. Lord Krishna revealed that the Ekadashi Vrat of the Shukla Paksha Adhik Maas is known as Padmini Ekadashi. - There lived a king named KritVirya of Mahishmati in the Treta Yuga. - He was a noble king who was much-loved by his people. - He had everything but an offspring who would succeed him. - Pained because of the absence of a child, the king along with his first queen, Padmini, headed to the forest to do intense penance. - There, the royal couple performed austerities for years. - One day, queen Padmini met Devi Anasuya, who asked her to keep a vrat on the day of Ekadashi, Shukla Paksha of the Mala Maas.
