This project relies on accurate sightings data records and your input will help play a part in the conservation of this species. If you’re in South East Queensland, make sure you log your glossy sightings data, including the date of the sightings, the location as well as any other details you have recorded. 04.01.2022 Do you remember learning about the parts of a flower in school? Most flowers have a ‘male’ and ‘female’ part on the one blossom, called the stamen and pisti...l, respectively. Some trees don’t do this thoughinstead, they have entirely different male and female trees! A common Brisbane tree that does this is the black she-oak (Allocasuarina littoralis), which birdwatchers will know as an important species for the glossy black-cockatoo. Shown here are flowers from a female tree in the top photo, and the male equivalent below, found growing in Karawatha Forest. See more
