This workshop is about adding that touch of flourish to your Uncial script. Different pen sizes and pointed nibs will be explored along with speed of writing to affect fluency and style. We will reference modern flourished examples of Uncial hands as designed by Sheila Waters. Then, play with contemporary layouts to pen freeform calligraphy pieces. Almost every script can be embellished with a few swirls of flourished or extended line. A name, key word or a short phrase can be made to come alive with a few carefully placed flourishes. This weekend is ideal for those with some basic experience in early Greek inspired Uncial scripts. Beginner students are welcome and will be given relevant assistance.
