10.01.2022 Are you a current student and interested in becoming a student leader? Help create a better university experience by becoming a student leader. Your contribution helps voice the ideas of the student body and ensures a student's voice is considered in university decision making. Learn more about the opportunity and to apply here - (Student login required) https://bit.ly/3h6D1iv Hear from current student senator Deborah below as she was asked about her time as a member of the s...tudent senate. What have you found most enjoyable or fulfilling about the role? Being on the Academic Board has allowed me the opportunity to meet a diverse range of people, all with very different stories, that are working towards the common good of ACU. Hearing of their hard work, amazing experiences & strategic vision has been an absolute privilege. What student specific skills and experiences were you able to bring to your role on Senate? The core curriculum units put you in an excellent position to deliver on the universitys mission. Dare I say this, but group work is highly advantageous as you need to be able to communicate effectively, respectfully, and appropriately. And lastly, understanding the theory and evidence from the reading we complete in our degrees, affords you the ability to think critically. How have your skills and professional experience developed over the years? I would say that I have developed a greater analytical ability from reading the Academic Board reports by asking myself one question - How is this appropriate/relevant to the context? As a consequence of this, I have grown the confidence to voice queries and concerns. What have you learnt from your role? That in order to provide good governance, robust discussion is a must. It fleshes out the details & makes stakeholders absolutely clear of their direction & accountabilities. Furthermore, that it is imperative to keep meetings on schedule and that it is ok to move on from items that do not reach an immediate resolution so long as there is a plan with a timeline, going forward.

07.01.2022 The mad scientist archetype has long been conspicuous in pop culture. It’s the Einstein-esque genius with wild hair and even wilder experiments.
