11.01.2022 We love the work of Mackay and District Turtle Watch in sunny Queensland. Volunteers spend most of their summer nights and early mornings walking the beaches looking for turtle tracks, relocating at risk nests and other turtle conservation work. Sounds like a dream right? This picture was taken at sunrise on Bucasia Beach. Turtle tracks like this are a common sight at this time of year. More info is available on their website, Instagram and Facebook pages. https://mackayturtles.org.au/

08.01.2022 "NSW DPI Fisheries has recently finished construction of two new oyster reef areas in Port Stephens. The project used 3,300t of rock and 200 cubic meters of recycled oyster shell to construct 10,000 square meters of inter-tidal shellfish reef base across two locations in the Port Stephens estuary. Construction wrapped up on the 15th of March 2020. In the first 6 months, more than 50 million oysters have recruited to the rock and shell reef bases that are currently filtering m...ore than 400,000L of water/hour and supporting more than 5000 fish (note, data is currently unpublished)." 04.01.2022 What a night! A great turn out to the Capes Coastal Forum. Inspiring discussions about how our community might drive a behavioural code or pledge to inspire res...pect and care for our coast. Stay tuned for more opportunities for the community to get involved in this exciting initiative. Thanks to Coastswap, Coastwest Grants and the Line in the Sand Philanthopic Group for their generous support for this event.
