25.01.2022 Meet Mrs Or Sopha, Cambodian de-miner (English below) ... Luke Arnold - Cambodian Mine Action Authority UNDP Cambodia - During a visit to an Australian-supported de-mining activity last week, Deputy Ambassador Luke Arnold had the pleasure of meeting Mrs Or Sopha, one of Cambodia’s growing number of female de-miners. Mrs Or said she was pleased to be able to contribute to landmine clearing operations in her home province of Pailin. Pailin Province was among the most mine-contaminated areas in the world when Australia commenced our support for Cambodia’s demining efforts in the mid-1990s. We continue to support these efforts through - Cambodian Mine Action Authority and UNDP Cambodia, in the hope that people like Mrs Or’s 14-month-old son can enjoy a mine-free future. In the meantime, land cleared of mines by Mrs Or and her fellow de-miners is being used to increase Cambodia’s agricultural production and absorb labour from sectors hit by the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. #AustralianAid Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

15.01.2022 Further Australian support for disabled flooding victims (English below) ... Luke Arnold Kang Arnold " - " " " ACCESS www.accesscambodia.org Deputy Ambassador Luke Arnold recently handed over 600 flood relief kits to disabled people's organisations in Battambang Province. This follows Ambassador Kang's handover of flood relief kits for persons with disabilities in Kampong Speu Province early this week. Australia has now donated 10,000kg of rice, 10,000 cans of fish, 4,000 bars of soap and 1,000 mosquito nets to persons with disabilities and their families in these two provinces, both of which have been severely affected by the floods. "Persons with disabilities already face a range of challenges and these have been exacerbated by COVID-19 and the floods," said Mr Arnold. "That is why the Australian Government is putting them at the centre of our flood relief efforts." Ms Pak Ran, a flood victim with visual impairments, said: "The recent floods have crushed our rice fields, which we depend on as a primary source of food. As my blindness makes it difficult to find alternative sources of food, these timely and much needed flood relief items from the Australian Government are a real blessing." The flood kits were mobilised through Australia's ACCESS Program, which promotes disability inclusion and the elimination of gender-based violence in Cambodia. Luke Arnold KOICA (KOICA Cambodia Office) German Embassy Cambodia (H-EQIP) World Bank H-EQIP Access to healthcare is expected to get better in Pailin Province, thanks to a new hospital building being constructed with Australian support. Last week, Deputy Ambassador Luke Arnold had the chance to meet the Pailin Provincial Referral Hospital management and inspect the construction site. Australia, together with South Korea ((Korean Embassy in Cambodia) and KOICA), German Embassy Cambodia and the Cambodian Government, is supporting the construction through the World Bank - managed Health Equity and Quality Improvement Project (H-EQIP). H-EQIP has also established a nation-wide system for funding health facilities based on how well they perform including by taking into account patient feedback. The construction of the new Pailin Province Referral Hospital is approximately 20 per cent complete and is on track to be finished in the fourth quarter of 2021. #AustralianAid Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
