17.01.2022 Working with people and children is my passion. I find my role rewarding and I use the success of my students as a key to my motivation and dedication. A congratulations is in order for our dedicated Trainer, Emma Ikin. Emma is a finalist in the upcoming 2019 Tasmanian Training Awards and is nominated for VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year. This award recognises the achievements and dedications of trainers who provide high-quality training and show a commitment to advancing t...he vocational education and training standards in Tasmania. Emmas road to successes grew from her passion for community connections and sharing her educational expertise, spanning across twenty-two years of experience in the field of Early Childhood Education and Care. With all that knowledge under her belt, Emma decided to pass that knowledge on, and embark on a career as a Trainer with AETS. Now, Emma is inspiring jobseekers across Tasmania as she is currently delivering AETS second Childcare Course in Hobart. On behalf of the team at AETS we would like to wish Emma the best of luck as this nomination is one that is well deserved.

16.01.2022 AETS has been able to secure Skills Tasmania funding to allow 25 of our Tasmanian graduates to commence infection control training this week. This is also in response to a recent industry recommendation that Individual Support staff should incorporate the accredited unit, Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures, as part of their qualification. Completing this study will ensure our participants have all the latest information about implementing st...andard and transmission-based precautions and responding to infection risks in their workplaces. This training provides an excellent opportunity to support them as new employees and build onto their skills and knowledge. We look forward to them finishing this unit in January 2021. For more information about participating in this course in Tasmania, contact [email protected] or 0408 111 238.

14.01.2022 Heres a happy Monday post for you! As part of their Project with a Purpose, aets students embarked upon A bear for a difference and donated 31 handmade bears to the Rural Fire Service in Campbelltown. The project was chosen with teamwork in mind. The bears were made to give to children in the community during times of need after experiencing loss or trauma to simply put a smile on their faces.... The students had a target to make four bears each. They had to cut, decorate, sew and stuff the bears, and if they finished their target they were encouraged to make more or assist a struggling team member. Overall, 31 bears were made. The group traveled by bus to the Rural Fire Service in Campbelltown and presented the bears, where they met the Chief of the station and saw the fire truck before a short presentation. The students were presented with a certificate for their efforts, and the Chief gave a speech discussing the huge difference their bears will have in a childs life by providing something to hold on to while recovering.

03.01.2022 I grew up in South Australia, where my dad worked in a metal foundry as a die caster and mum was a stay-at-home mother. As a young child I never understood why... my father was never around or had time to kick the ball. When I was 12, I told my dad we didnt need him. My mum stopped me in my tracks and explained what is now obvious to me; my dad didnt want us going without, or mum missing out on special events or milestones with us. He worked so we could have a comfortable life - a selfless gift I now honour and respect. I learnt that things arent always as they seem and sometimes we have to do things we dont necessarily want to do. I remember from that day on wanting to work so my dad could spend time with us. At 14 I got my first job which was working at a BP service station as a service assistant. I would work after school three nights a week and on weekends. I was responsible for washing windscreens, checking oil and water, keeping the service station clean and customers happy. I remember my first pay check and offering it to my parents and they said, 'no - go have some fun, buy what you want as next week you will start to bank half your pay' I thank my parents for my upbringing and the lessons I learnt from them - hard work, selflessness, not to judge a book by its cover and the values I hold close; respect, integrity, being kind/helpful and having a great work-life balance. Lessons are learnt in many a different ways and our experiences shape who we are and help us define what we what to achieve in our life. I am now working at AETS helping the youth build skills and knowledge to gain employment through the Youth Jobs PaTH training program. Like any job it brings its challenges but is one of the most rewarding jobs Ive ever had. My own journey to date helps me empathise with the young people today.
