22.01.2022 SCRAPING HOT HORSES DOESN'T COOL THEM DOWN - PROOF! Several years ago I came to the realisation that scraping water off hot horses was not helping to cool them ...down. This was based on published papers, practical experience and application of the laws of physics. I've put out several posts on my Facebook page about this over the past year. This Summer at the Ready Steady Tokyo equestrian test event thermographer Helen Reynolds of Equionics https://www.equionics.com/ was working with me on another project but we took the opportunity to look at the effects of scraping hot horses whilst they were being cooled. As you can see from the example videos: (1) Scraping does not speed up cooling. In fact it has no effect on the horses surface temperature (2) Cold water left on the horse does not heat up and insulate the horse or make it hotter! For horses that are warm and in cool to warm climates, if you want to scrape then it doesn’t matter. It will just take longer for your horse to cool down. When is it important NOT TO SCRAPE? When you have a VERY HOT HORSE that needs rapid cooling e.g. after cross-country, polo, racing, driving, etc ESPECIALLY in HOT WEATHER! The speed of cooling is related to three things: 1) The temperature of the water 2) The amount of surface of your horse that you cover with water 3) The amount of water you put on The fastest rate of cooling will be with lots of cold water all over the body. So a horse cooled all over for 10 minutes with 100 litres of water at 5C will cool much faster than one cooled just over the chest and neck with 50 litres of water at 15C! Scraping just wastes time that would be better used applying more water! Once again, DO NOT SCRAPE if you have to COOL a VERY HOT HORSE, especially in WARM/HOT WEATHER! *** Postscript *** To those still fighting the urge to scrape, look around 49s in the video. When the cold water is SCRAPED OFF the horses surface actually HEATS UP!

18.01.2022 Well this just happened early this year I bought a horse. But not any old horse no the horse I bought was the horse I rode for years whilst serving in the House...hold cavalry. I found out from friends still serving that he’s has completed his Military service the rest is history. I made the Necessary steps in rehoming him. This horse helped me threw tough lonely times away from home as a young man today I pay him back An animal I fell In love with almost 15 years ago in a army barracks in London, owed by her majesty the Queen . Is now mine and he lives as part of my family now in Preston, this animal is not your everyday horse. He’s a very special horse he’s taken part in some of the the most prestigious state occasions and parades. And been closer to the royal family all his life than 99% people could only dream of. AGRICOLA 77 2 TROOP RHGD you will live out your remaining years in pure luxury sir happy retirement and thank you for serving QUEEN AND COUNTRY with pure class and distinctions. I didn’t forget you AGGY PS THANK YOU TOO EVERYONE FOR YOUR KIND KIND WORDS. ME AND AGRICOLA ARE OVERWHELMED WITH THE RESPONSE YOU HAVE GIVEN A HERO HORSE THE GLOBAL RECOGNITION HE DESERVES THE MODERN DAY WAR HORSE Due a small minority of people sadly posting negative comments about Aggys condition or weight. Please bare in mind you don’t know Aggy or his health conditions. It’s almost laughable you would think he’s been neglected by the British Army. He has had nothing other than 10/10 treatment his entire life and will continue to do so for the remainder thanks. @kirsty_diamondhairstudio @household_cavalry Forrest Sport Horses Any treats equipment is welcomed please DM postage details See more

15.01.2022 ***** Long Post*** I awake today very tired but very relieved that our latest export sale has been successfully completed. All 28 horses travelled well and ar...rived safely to their stables. We had a push back delay in flying which happens, but sends a domino effect down the line and logistics nightmare but the horses are the priority and the humans just make it all happen. Congratulations Andrew Buckley, Tammin Glover, Wikus Junior Holtzhausen and all the team at EBL Performance Horses who were tasked again with the job of transforming, training, loving, and caring for our horses while presenting to my client and providing the quarantine facilities. I know it’s a huge job, and a stressful one, even more so this time around due to drought, fire and then foooding ! But you did an outstanding job in very tough conditions. Thank to to Amy Barbour for all your help again, my go too girl. Doug Edlington for all your export preparation Veterianry services, your flexibility and commitment to this job is greatly appreciated. Sean the super farrier for getting everyone on track. National Horse Transport for your continued support and your get the job done attitude that makes this all happen. IRT Lachie & Christina, Julian it’s epic every time we do this but it’s a team effort and you are my team. To all my suppliers, and sellers you continually provide me with lovely horses that my clients are thrilled to own and appreciate our continued support in growing their horse industry and knowledge. AEES has worked with Thailand horse owners over the past 13 years and the repeat export sales speaks volumes for the love they have of our Australian horses and its people. Lastly thank you Nort, Peter Riordan and to my family for making it all happen. Marion Betker for always jumping in to allow me to chase my passion. See more
