25.01.2022 For years we’ve been investing in renewable energy because we know it’s the future. So it’s great to see the NSW Government, Opposition and crossbench commit to make NSW a renewable energy superpower. Together with 30 organisations we’ve taken a full-page ad in the paper today to say thanks. http://thanksnsw.com/

24.01.2022 A report by research company Morningstar has named Australian Ethical among just six ‘leaders’ in ethical investment out of 40 asset managers assessed worldwide. It confirms our position as a deeply ethical investment manager not just in Australia, but on a global stage.

23.01.2022 A group of us from Australian Ethical recently volunteered with Seabin Project, an organisation on a mission to remove rubbish from the oceans. They do this with...sea bins! These bins sit in marinas and yacht clubs, catching rubbish before it hits the ocean. And they use the 'data' (aka: rubbish) as research to drive change. Seabin received a Community Grant in 2019 to help expand their Sydney pilot program with the installation of two bins in Rushcutters Bay. Thanks to all... our members who help us support this great work. They're always looking for more people to get involved, so if you'd like to get involved you can find out more here: https://seabinproject.com/seabin-for-sydney/community/

22.01.2022 You might have noticed we’ve changed our name on Facebook from Australian Ethical Super to Australian Ethical Investment. Our name has always been Australian Ethical Investment, as we actually do more than super, like managed funds and separately managed accounts. So we’re just updating our social name to encompass all of what we do. Who we are has not, nor ever will, change. We’ve been investing ethically since 1986 and our Ethical Charter is at the core of what we do and h...ow we invest. Thanks for being part of our community.

22.01.2022 For the month of September we’re partnering with HalfCut to help protect the Daintree rainforest and give it back to the Traditional Owners. We’re donating on behalf of every new member who joins us.

22.01.2022 The Australian Ethical Foundation supports Free To Shine, an organisation in Cambodia that aims to keep girls in school and safe from being trafficked into the sex industry. The Social Work Project will provide 600 social work visits to school aged girls across the Siem Reap Province identified as most at risk of being trafficked into the commercial sex industry in Cambodia. The work will provide professional support to address adversities such as poverty and family breakdown, improve their access to education and meet their human rights. Thank you Free To Shine for the important and life saving work you do

21.01.2022 What do you love most about our natural environment? We asked this question on social media and you said it’s the beautiful animals, the diverse and rugged beauty and the connection to Aboriginal history and the presence of the Traditional Custodians. All of this, and more, is now at risk because our government is pushing to further weaken our natural laws as part of a review that happens every 10 years. ... We want to see environmental laws that actually protect nature and an independent regulator to enforce them. Join us and share this message and tag Scott Morrison (ScoMo) and Sussan Ley MP. You can also sign the petition calling for stronger laws: acf.org.au/environment_laws_petition/ Australian Conservation Foundation #beforeitsgone #epbc #nature

21.01.2022 There is no place safe for women like us. Not our workplaces, nor our homes, and not the road we take. Latest Human Rights Watch India report No #MeToo for Women Like Us highlights poor enforcement of sexual harassment law. We're proud to have supported this important work through the Australian Ethical Foundation.

19.01.2022 Seaweed farming offers a unique solution to fighting climate change, keeping our oceans clean and providing communities with an income. Through our Foundation we support the expansion of 'blue carbon': sea grass, tidal marshes and mangrove forests. These ecosystems act as a carbon sink, reducing CO2 in the atmosphere. They can trap carbon 30-50 times faster than typical 'green' forests and they help sustain important ecosystems. Blue Carbon Lab

19.01.2022 Well done Tasmania! The Tasmania government has declared that it has become the first Australian state, and one of just a handful of jurisdictions worldwide, to be powered entirely by renewable electricity. Tasmanian energy minister Guy Barnett said that state had effectively become entirely self-sufficient for supplies of renewable electricity, supplied by the state’s wind and hydroelectricity projects.... "We have reached 100 per cent thanks to our commitment to realising Tasmania’s renewable energy potential through our nation-leading energy policies and making Tasmania attractive for industry investment, which in turn is creating jobs across the State, particularly in our regions, Barnett said. It's great to see States leading the way in the energy transition and acting on climate change.

16.01.2022 There's an international shift away from coal. So why isn't Australia taking part? At Australian Ethical we invest in renewable energy (solar, wind, tidal, geothermal and sustainable hydro) as well as energy efficiency and battery storage. These technologies are essential to limit global warming. Not only are they more sustainable than fossil-fuel energy production, they also are job creators and can help alleviate poverty with off-grid and future-proof energy supply.

16.01.2022 Greyhound Rescue cares for greyhounds discarded by the racing industry. It rehabilitates the dogs and finds them ‘forever homes’ where they can live happy and safe lives. And we're supporting them again for another year through our Community Grants! Since 2009 Greyhound Rescue have rehabilitated and found homes for more than one thousand greyhounds. Many come into care in poor mental or physical condition after years of abuse in the racing industry. At Australian Ethical we a...ct proudly in line with our values. Instead of watching the Melbourne Cup last year, we volunteered to look after rescued greyhounds because no animal should experience animal cruelty for entertainment. Image via Greyhound Rescue

15.01.2022 "For women like me what is #MeToo? There is so place safe for us." The #MeToo movement helped to shine a light on violence and harassment at work, but the experiences of millions of women in India’s informal sector remain invisible. 13.01.2022 Food security in many countries can be challenging at the best of times, let alone in the middle of a global health pandemic. We caught up with Community Grant recipients Love Mercy to find out about how they’re helping female entrepreneurs in northern Uganda during the COVID-19 pandemic.

13.01.2022 The NSW Government has unveiled one of the most ambitious climate plans in the country, which will drive down power prices and pollution, create much-needed jobs and deliver huge economic benefits to the state. It could see an increase in the share of renewable energy in the state from about 16% today to more than 60% by 2030. This is the kind of leadership we'd like to see from every state and at a national level. Don't you agree?... Read more: https://www.theguardian.com//nsw-unveils-32bn-renewable-en

13.01.2022 Diversity in leadership is important for our society. That's why we take an active role by advocating for more women on company boards. Last financial year we targeted companies we invest in with low gender diversity at board level and within executive leadership. It’s pleasing to see that across ASX 200, more and more companies are reaching a 30% diversity target.

13.01.2022 It’s great to see other investment companies using their voice to influence businesses to change. Investors demanded accountability of Rio Tinto for their poor conduct around its cultural heritage and community engagement, following the destruction of the 46,000-year-old Juukan Gorge rock shelters. This is the power we have as investors; to speak up and create change. 12.01.2022 Biodiversity is a big factor when it comes to the spread of disease. Damage to ecosystems by humans pushes us closer to wildlife where pathogens can spread more easily. 10.01.2022 Australia has one of the worst extinction rates in the world. And yet our laws allow destructive developments to drive plants and animals to extinction. Yet trees are one of the best climate solutions we have. That's why we're helping to protect the Daintree Rainforest with our friends HalfCut. We’re donating to protect the forest on behalf of every new member who joins us during September.

08.01.2022 Net zero emissions = achieving an overall balance between greenhouse gas emissions produced and greenhouse gas emissions taken out of the atmosphere. Net zero is crucial in our fight against global warming because it is the point when we stop adding to the burden of climate-heating gases in the atmosphere. Only then can we start to repair past harm by drawing down past emissions.
