25.01.2022 Impressed to see Ghanaians on the streets promoting a peaceful election. #Nkabom4Peace #BallotsNotBullets #Ghana

24.01.2022 I need to soak my leg in warm water every day to reduce the pain and foster recovery from my injury. So I’ve taken a leaf out of Mckingtorch Makafui Awuku’s book. To avoid contributing to the local and global plastics pollution problem, Papa Law and Big K who normally manages my residence as my butler and who has been my full time a d very kind carer for the past two weeks helped me repurpose a #Kufuor Gallon today! It does the trick. Imagination is the limit! What can you do to upcycle a Kufuor Gallon? Please share ideas on the comments below.

23.01.2022 Something I love about Australia is that we are a land of religious diversity and tolerance. My best friend and adopted brother in Australia is a Buddhist monk. His name, Tsultrim Gyatso, means ocean of morality. He prays for peace and non-violence everyday. Like me, Tsultrim is a man who firmly opposes gender-based violence. #16days #orangetheworld

22.01.2022 This is Australia, the country I represent. Thanks to ABC Landline for this adorable photo taken by George F Photography of a young Aboriginal Australian boy and a wallaby sharing a moment of affection at Warruwi in Australia’s Northern Territory.

22.01.2022 What you walk past you condone. That’s why Niyi from UNFPA GHANA, Muhammad from UNICEF Ghana and I call out gender-based violence when we see it or hear of it. #16Days #OrangeTheWorld Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

21.01.2022 After finishing my quarantine I’ve unfortunately got myself straight into another pickle, as we’d say on Australia. I tore a leg muscle while exercising on Tuesday. I can’t really walk at the moment and am under strict instructions to rest and keep my leg elevated for a week. And after that I will be using crutches for a while. Sorry to the people and organisations I’ve had to cancel engagements with. And special thanks to everyone at the WARA hospital for looking after me. They even took me in their ambulance which kind of felt a bit embarrassing because there are many needier people to me. But I really did appreciate the care.

20.01.2022 Political tolerance strengthens democracy. Say yes to unity and peace this election. Kudos NCCE Gh for excellent messaging and for meeting the #JerusalemaDanceChallenge. Ghanaians are clearly good dancers!

20.01.2022 What a magnificent African creature! But sadly also an endangered species at risk of extinction. Ghana’s dedicated Mole National Park rangers regularly send me updates of their work. They lifted my spirits big-time yesterday with this leopard footage from a camera trap. It made me forget all about the pain and debilitation of my leg injury and it reinvigorated my determination to secure support for their wildlife monitoring and anti-poaching efforts. Watch this space. We simply can’t let species like this disappear forever.

19.01.2022 Australian diplomat Claire who works with me says there’s urgent need to tackle violence against women and we all have a responsibility to deal with it! I agree with Claire 110%. #16dayactivism #orangetheworld #idevaw2020

19.01.2022 In Indigenous Australian cultures, special places are called Dreamings or Sacred Sites. Karlu Karlu in the Northern Territory is one of these places. The Kaytete, Warumungu, Warlpiri and Alyawarra peoples all have a relationship with this special place going back for tens of thousands of years. They have stories about it which are handed down generation to generation. Karlu Karlu is protected under Australian law and jointly managed as a national park with its traditional Indigenous owners. #alwayswasalwayswillbe National NAIDOC #NAIDOCweek2020

19.01.2022 Have you noticed any changes at the Australian High Commission? Ghanaian artist Bolabie and his colleague Eric are helping me bring it to life with Indigenous designs. In the weeks to come the outside walls will also transform with Australian and Ghanaian nature designs coming together. Keep watching this space and get ready for the High Commission to become a feature of Accra’s street-art landscape. I will let you know when it’s happening so you can drop down for a visit and watch the art emerge.

17.01.2022 It's Australia's national day, Australia Day! Australia has 60, 000 years of Indigenous cultures to celebrate and share. On Australia Day and every day, we are one and we are many.

17.01.2022 Today is Australia’s national day, Australia Day! At the Australian High Commission, we wish all Australians in West Africa strength and happiness on Australia Day and every day. Australia we are one. We are free. And we are many. #AusOfTheYear; #AustraliaDay; #ourNMA; #ReflectRespectCelebrate

16.01.2022 Isaac, Francisca and Samuel from the West Africa Rescue Association - WARA in Accra keep me healthy and are currently getting me back on my feet after my leg injury. We stand together for the elimination of all forms of violence against women and children. There is no excuse for gender-based violence. #16Days #OrangeTheWorld #GBV

15.01.2022 Like my kids, the children of Ghana deserve the best. That’s why I’m so pleased that Australia supports Children of the Light led by Jeanette Brown Opoku! We have already provided significant funding to help give them the best start in life. And we will stand by them 100%. You can too. youtu.be/HlMyhEpocPo #16Days #OrangeTheWorld

15.01.2022 Construction has started on the Australian High Commission’s Christmas tree thanks to Mckingtorch Makafui Awuku and his wonderful volunteers. We are pretty sure this will be Ghana’s first ever solar-powered recycled-plastics Christmas tree. This is a team effort. Watch us bring light to this Christmas with renewable energy. #HappyChristmas Ghana, I love you!

15.01.2022 Australia voted in 1947 along with 32 United Nations members to establish a Jewish State. We have over 70 years of diplomatic relations together. It was terrific to invite Her Excellency Ambassador Shani Cooper from Israel in Ghana over for tea today. Shani shared with me some fresh dates from her dad’s own farm in Israel. They were seriously the best I’ve ever had. There are about five left and it’s going to be really hard if I have to share them!

15.01.2022 This Australia Day I shared one of my own favourite artworks onto the walls of our High Commission in Accra. Australia is home to some of the most ancient cultures in the world. We are one and we are many. We treasure and share with each other and the world over 60,000 years of continuously-practiced Indigenous cultures. That’s what I did today on #AustraliaDay. PS: it’s not finished yet.

12.01.2022 Today is Remembrance Day. It is 102 years since the Armistice was signed to end World War One on the 11th of November 1918. The conflict claimed millions of lives including 60,000 Australians. Today at 11am we observe a minute of silence to pay tribute to the men and women who have served and are still serving in our defence forces and to remember the sacrifice of those who have died or suffered in service to their country. #WeRememberThem

07.01.2022 Today as people head to the polls for special voting here’s my message: may Ghanaians protect the reputation of their country as a nation of peace, non-violence, diversity and tolerance.

07.01.2022 At the Australian High Commission we express our condolences for the loss of Ghana’s former President, His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings. We send our deep sympathies to the peoples of Ghana, especially the former President’s family. And we show our respect for the period of mourning announced by His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Nicodemus helped me lower our flags this evening.

06.01.2022 On #WorldToiletDay I’m sharing a picture of a composting toilet that I built with my friend Steve and our sons using recycled materials on my family’s nature conservation property in Australia. Access to toilets is essential for public health and human dignity everywhere, including the Australian bush. I notice I was wearing a #NelsonMandela T-shirt that day. He will always be one of my all time heroes. I admire his strength, determination, compassion and forgiveness.

06.01.2022 Four amazing Australian women have been named Australians of the Year for 2021. Including African Australian Rosemary Kariuki! Our Foreign Minister Marise Payne explains more below!

06.01.2022 The Australian High Commission is having an artistic revamp. Watch this space as our street-front becomes a feature of Accra’s vibrant street-art scene. Over the next month we will come to life with the colours and beauty of Indigenous Australia and the natural world.

06.01.2022 Terrorism destroys lives and deprives children and whole nations of safe and prosperous futures. That’s why Australia is a proud contributor to the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) and the United Nations Peacekeeping system. Today I was humbled to open a three day regional workshop on countering violence extremism in West Africa and the Sahel. It was wonderful to see civil society and government people from across West Africa coming together to discuss how improved teamwork can help us tackle this important global problem and stop the terrorists. I’m proud of them all!

05.01.2022 Canada and Australia are 16,000km apart. But we share the same values. Including on the importance of #maskingup and #socialdistancing to beat COVID and save lives. Thanks High Commission of Canada to Ghana, Togo and Sierra Leone for this promoting COVID safety protocols.

04.01.2022 OK I know I’m supposed to be resting under doctors orders. But I had to join in today for installation of our High Commission’s chicken coop. Thanks to Mckingtorch Makafui Awuku the hutches are made using recycled Kuffor Gallons. He helped us turn plastic pollution into something productive. And Emmanuel from Greater Accra Poultry Farmers Association supplied us with ten chickens, ten guinea fowls and five turkeys! He is also advising us on their care. The coop is part of a ...community vegetable garden and sustainability approach we are establishing. In Australia local produce and ‘paddock-to-plate’ food is increasingly popular. I will serve organic home grown produce to visitors. And our staff will share the crops and eggs. While the turkeys won’t be ready for Christmas, they will be by Easter! The chickens and guinea fowls are strictly for eggs. But it will be hard to give them names because they all look the same! See more

01.01.2022 Our High Commission garden crew Selorm, Anani, Julius, Moses and Emmanel stand united with me against violence towards women and children. We also love working together in our High Commission community veggie garden and have lots of pawpaws, cucumbers and lettuce on the way. #16daysofactivism #orangetheworld
