22.01.2022 Follow Tim Gurry on another Australian History Mystery. WHAT ARE THE MYSTERIES OF MARALINGA? The ABC Australia’s current drama series Operation Buffalo is a reminder to us all to ask what really happened at Maralinga 64 years ago? How can we uncover some of the Cold War secrets and the consequences of testing atomic weapons in Australia?... In this video - What are the mysteries of Maralinga? - we explore an important Australian Cold War event that is often overlooked in Australian history: the testing of atomic weapons in Australia in the 1950s. What does this event reveal about the Australia in which it occurred? And how can we, with today’s values, develop an empathetic understanding of the values and attitudes of Australian society during the Cold War? You can also investigate the effects of nuclear testing on Aboriginal people from that area and ongoing debates about responsibility and compensation since that time. An interactive entitled, Cold War timeline, is also available for this case study at : https://www.australianhistorymysteries.info//mysteries-of/ https://youtu.be/-FlNCiXIwW4 #marlainga #coldwar #operationbuffalo #abc Operation Buffalo - 2020 Tim Gurry #historymysteries #teacherresources #history #historyteachers
