20.01.2022 Levi Beil wanted an apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery with OPEN Projects Group right from the beginning of his journey with AITC. He targeted the business for his work experience and loved it as they do a variety of work with a variety of medium. Levi did two blocks of work experience and impressed with his retention of information from his first block and how well he got on with the staff. Job done! Now the hard work begins Levi, but you're up for it - congratulations!

19.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day. Its a day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? if someone in your world is struggling with lifes ups and downs. To remind our young people of the power of asking a simple question and "being there" the College leaders cooked bacon and egg rolls this morning (delicious!) and mingled with staff who are always willing to ask - and listen. Check out the official R U OK? Day website here: https://www.ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day and make it your mission to ask someone R U OK? today

17.01.2022 During the Cert I in Construction, TAFE decided to add a few more experiences for our young people, trying out painting, tiling and bricklaying. It was during the tiling experience that Jesse Lewis decided he wanted to try it in a work experience placement. Employer Aesthetic Tile & Stone already had one of our former students and rang to ask for another at the time Jesse was looking - so it was meant to be! Congratulations Jesse, sometimes looking at something new really pays off!

16.01.2022 Thanks to Blair from GC TAFE who visited our Year 11 and 12 Electrotechnology young people today to offer some support ensure they understand and are up to speed with their e-profiling. RTOs and employers rely on the e-profiling record to identify and track an apprentices progression and achievement of competency through on-the-job application of knowledge and skills, so it's vital that young people understand it's importance and how to use it.

15.01.2022 What a journey for Jay Martin! When Jay started working with PPSQ Plumbing & Gas in March this year, he immediately impressed bosses Ben and Jake with his strong work ethics and can-do attitude. Unfortunately this was at the beginning of a pandemic, so the future looked uncertain. Fast forward 6 months and nearly 400 hours of work placement, and Jay's continuous hard work and commitment to the company meant that PPSQ offered him an apprenticeship when the time was right for them. Huge congratulations to you Jay - your perseverance has paid off, and you're now a first year Plumbing Apprentice! Excellent job!

14.01.2022 Andrew and Brendan Lavis were very determined to be signed up into an apprenticeship quickly. Conversations with the twins through the Year 10 Rookies program confirmed their dedication and focus, they were more than ready to work hard at reaching their shared goal. Andrew and Brendan have been raised on 'on the tools' from a young age and always enjoyed working with their father, Matt from Matt Lavis Building. After a short time on work experience, Matt was ready to sign them both up. Congratulations Andrew and Brendan I am certain we will be seeing your handiwork for years to come in the buildings and renovations yet to be done!

13.01.2022 Congratulations to Bailey Neale who has begun his journey as a Plumbing Apprentice! Bailey has worked exceptionally hard, completing work experience with three different companies before eventually working with Carrara Plumbing. Employer, Robert knew he had found a good fit for the business in Bailey straight away, and with his acquired skills and confidence developed from work experience and a Cert II, Bailey impressed Robert with his passion for the trade. Best of luck in your new career, Bailey!

11.01.2022 Anthony Razmovski has been interested in becoming an auto mechanic since his arrival at College. He was super keen and tried work experience with a number of different companies, really looking for that perfect "fit". Roy from Roy's Auto Care was the answer, connecting from the first day and the feeling was mutual - voila! Congratulations Anthony, your passion just became your career!

11.01.2022 Dreams really do come true! Hamish Moore has overcome many obstacles over the past 12 months. After missing out on a hard earned apprenticeship offer just before Christmas due to a broken arm, he was then offered another shot earlier this year, only to have it taken away again due to Covid:19. Instead of this deterring him, it only gave Hamish more fuel to chase his dream. Hamish applied for the Brown & Hurley 2021 Apprenticeship for Heavy Diesel intake a couple of months ag...o, and sealed his fate by showcasing his work ethic and excellent attitude at a few weeks of Work Experience. He was then put forward for an interview and some extensive tests, which he passed with flying colours! Congratulations to you Hamish, you've really earned this! And congrats to Cameron and the team at Brown and Hurley on welcoming your new apprentice in the New Year. See more

11.01.2022 Aaron Kon worked with a few different employers, however after some work experience with Mint Kitchen Group he knew they were the the right fit for him, and he was determined to convince them of his value! He trialled for a while and it was not long before Mint wanted him out on site, learning how to fit kitchens. Well done Aaron!

10.01.2022 Today was the presentation of the BUSSQ Alan Kiefer Scholarship which provides the recipient with $1500 off their school tuition fees. Alan Kiefer was a much admired Skylight Financial Solutions staff member who passed away from melanoma in 2018. His support to young people and especially those in trades inspired this lasting legacy. Congratulations to Tom Bisbas, 2020 Gold Coast winner! In recognition of this win and also for National Skills week the young people and staff were treated to a cake for morning tea!

10.01.2022 Congratulations to Kade Harper who is now an Apprentice Locksmith! Kade first tested the waters with a week of work experience at Terry's Lock and Security Solutions in 2019 which he thoroughly enjoyed. He then tried a couple of other trade options, but the locksmithing experience stayed in his mind, so he booked another couple of weeks to be sure this was the right path for him. General Manager Sergio, was thrilled to be able to offer him the opportunity to join the team, clearly the feeling was mutual. Well done Kade, we're proud of you to have the courage to follow your heart and wish you all the very best !

09.01.2022 Logan Feltham's unwavering passion to become a chef has weathered the storm of COVID-19, and he's now been rewarded with an outstanding position at the Kurrawa Surf Club. 07.01.2022 Caleb Balint took advantage of the flexibility of the AITC program and completed many hours of work experience in both Plumbing and Electrical, both of which he enjoyed and learned a great deal. When Foundation Training Australia approached us with a local employer searching for his first apprentice for his rapidly expanding Landscape Construction company, Qld Fence & Landscape Pty Ltd Caleb was keen to try out. Having a part-time landscaping job had ignited Caleb's passion in this area, and gave him the head start he needed to impress employer, Matt. Congratulations Caleb as you begin your apprenticeship journey - AITC is so proud of you!

05.01.2022 Jett Cooney's decision to work with metal came after completing a Cert I in Construction. Several work experience blocks later, that decision has become a great reality! 05.01.2022 Trade Tasters for the Year 10 young people consist of lots of different experiences, all designed to expose them to different trades, but also to provide some basic skills and knowledge. Take these young people learning how to mix mortar and lay a brick. Hmmm. Do any families feel as though a pizza oven in the backyard might be a possibility?

04.01.2022 HWD Constructions provided some work experience for Angus Day, and never looked back. Angus had already been flagged by his TAFE trainer as a "quiet achiever" and HWD agreed. His commitment, attitude and interest in the trade got him over the line - congratulations Angus!

04.01.2022 Each year, one Year 12 young person is selected to receive the Alan Kiefer scholarship presented by BUSSQ and Skylight Financial Solutions. Alan was always a positive influence to those around him, living by the idea that there was always good to be found, even in the worst of situations. We are very excited to announce this year's sucessful candidates from the Gold Coast, Redlands, and Sunshine Coast campuses.

02.01.2022 What was that video at Roof Shout all about? Watch it again below. At the AITC, giving back is in our DNA. To not only be industry leaders but to also make a difference in the world. COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on the Siem Reap economy, due to the immediate suspension of international tourism several months ago.... Every two years, AITC young people, employers and staff use their technical talents to improve the lives of critically poor families in Cambodia by building homes and repairing the New Hope school. But with international travel suspended, we need to help in other ways. We have hope. We have a plan. We have a goal. All will be revealed in Term 4. We just need you to say Im in. #AITCImIn

02.01.2022 "The job market has been through big upheavals in 2020 and thats impacted which industries have the most demand for new workers. Huge pressure on the healthcare system and a growth in parcel delivery during COVID-19 are two key factors shaping the most-needed roles in Australia right now."

01.01.2022 Yesterday saw our last Roofshout for the year! There was a lot to celebrate with academic awards, Industry sign ups and recognition of some outstanding young people, not to mention the Bringamate reward recipients. Congratulations to all and enjoy some down time - you've earned it!
